Painted shark fin

Recommended Posts

My buddy just bought a denali and I noticed it has a painted shark fin. Are the shark fins interchangeable eventhough the denali one is bigger then my AT antenna?

Thanks

If you remove it to paint it, use an adhesion promoter on the plastic surface.

The bigger ones are for the 2015.5's with LTE. I doubt the antennas are interchangeable, but don't know 100% for sure.

all the new body styles will eventually get LTE upgrade, if that is the LTE antenna, we will be getting it.

As far as I know, Canadians will get it free of charge INCLUDING install, because we have the 5 year subscription for remote fob. Americans should not be far off.

But I doubt that we need a new antenna, antennas are pretty much a wire, unless they have to add a secondary wire because Canadian network does not have VoLTE and they want it to be able to work voice AND LTE data simultaneously.

If you can wait, I have been harassing my dealer and OnStar for the upgrade, I am hoping to get it ASAP. I WILL post pics of before and after if there is any visual changes.

Video will for sure to come to show how much faster the remotelink ended up to be.

LOL, I harassed OnStar like every week lol, WHEN IS IT COMING WHEN IS IT COMING lol

They keep telling me that I will get into in the mail, but I will keep harassing them to see if they have the info before the mail arrived. If you received the notice in January that no action is required at this time, you will receive the information the same way that mail came (email or regular post)

Yeah, if you have 2014 GM vehicle with 2G, you will get it. RemoteLink will be a lot faster too :)

Never gonna happen. Maybe if you're a premium OnStar subscriber, they might upgrade you. But the average Joe isn't going to get upgraded to 4G/LTE. Way too expensive for GM. GM isn't discontinuing the 3G service - it'll still be available for many, many years.

And FYI, there's much more to antenna than "just a wire".

I know it is more than just a wire. The have specified that if the user has the 5 year service they will be qualified for the free upgrade too. I am sure they have worked out the cost into the original vehicle cost. They actually specified this to me, I have also asked to make sure it does apply to me and they said yes.

I recently upgrade from a 2014 doubles SLE to 2015 crew cab SLT fully loaded and I notice the response time for even locking and unlocking doors is fast and I was impressed on the wifi 3gbs free for 3months and its streams movies on my wife's Mac like no ones business. Also the on star app is faster

Adding to that, it is not 3G getting discontinued, it is 2G. And not in control by OnStar. In order for them to have the 5 year remote fob to work, they HAVE TO ensure that they do not false advertise.

Are you talking about the phone app? I'm confused by what 5 year plan you are describing.

the vehicle comes with 5 year remote fob service, the remote fob section in the app yes. So, in order to meet their service, they are required to include the upgrade to continue the operation of that app.

You can go without the safe and sound or what ever money grabber OnStar made up, but you still have the remote fob for 5 years from the date you activated it.

What these guys are saying is that the old system will still work for the time being. GM will be holding up their end of the deal whether the system functions on 3G or LTE.

Right, GM will still honor your non-LTE onstar for 5 years, probably longer. As long as the cell carriers have the ability. They aren't going to pay to upgrade any customers.
