HID lights

Hi all, new to the fourm, have been reading for months.

anyhow i am interested in upgrading my stock 2014 Sierra lights (NO LED bezel!) to HID. I am looking at the DDM kits and am not sure what to order.

i have read through the pinned thread, and many of others and could not see any reference to NON LED lights. is there any difference?

I am competent enough to install the lights, just want to make sure i have everything i need! sorry for beating the dead horse on the HID's ladies and gents, Someone tell me what to order from DDM so i can get me some lights that look better than my keychain flashlight!

Looks about right,

You dont need 2 harness unless you are going to use one as a test to splice and put the capacitor in.

You dont need the mounting brackets, there is not much space anywhere with the amount of give the wiring harness allows. Easier if you just zip tie to the closes beam it can reach.

The capacitor will be a little confusing to install, use a volt meter measure the polarity of the output from stock connector, I un-clipped the pins from the input of the harness and clipped the capacitor parallel to the pins, and put the connector back together, only use it on the driver side. This is only required if you are getting bad flickering, and flickering usually only happens in drive mode after a while.

Are you dead set on using DDM? I don't have any experience with them, but do with the kit TRS sells for the Sierra. It's plug and play for the most part and worked fine for me until I got around to retrofitting the projectors with FX-R's. Quality parts and service from TRS.

Nope, not too dead set at all.

Just been reading through the forums and other sources and heard DDM the most, ill take a look at the TRS system.

Yes, take a look at them, DDM has high failure rate at first install, but if everything works, it will last pretty good

DDM has about the same failure rate as the other brands. You get what you pay for doesn't always pan out with HID kits, just look at the other expensive brands (won't mention names), they're almost 4 times the price of the 35w DDM kit and they're failing too.

Actually, the bulbs alone are by and large the same. It is the ballasts. There is different ballasts out there.

Ballasts are consisted of different builds, some are AC and some are DC, DC will cause the bulbs would prematurely die.

I have two sets of HIDs, the first set is 35w, hylux set, made by philips apparently. The bulbs are practically exactly the same, except the colour temperatures. The ballasts are heavy and the seams all look to have a nice seal. The DDM does not. One of my DDM ballasts failed after a few days of use.

I did measure my DDM ballasts, they are AC, if I measured them correctly.

But this is just my experiences.
