Traded 2013 Silverado 2500HD LTZ Z71 for 2015 Silverado 1500 LTZ NHT

Late last week I made the decision to downsize from my 2013 Silverado 2500HD LTZ Z71 6.0L for a 2015 Silverado 1500 LTZ 5.3L NHT. The main reason I decided to trade was to improve on the 10 - 11 mpg I got with the 6.0L.

 

I made the trade in Ohio, about 500 miles from home. On the way to Ohio I averaged 11.8 mpg with the 2013 6.0L truck running 70-75 mph. On the way home, I averaged 18.2 mpg with the new truck also running 70-75. That included about fifty miles of stop and go driving in addition to interstate driving. My 25 mile best average on the way home was 21.6mpg.

 

In town driving has been averaging 17-18 so far. Right now I feel much better about my decision to downsize. The new 1500 is a much more refined vehicle for a daily driver. Once I get 1000 miles on it I will start pulling my 7000lb. travel trailer. The real test will be how this new 1500 pulls my trailer. We have a trip planned to the Natchez Trace and gulf coast in May which should be about 4000 miles of pulling.

I'm assuming you got 3.42 gears in it, correct? If you have 3.08's your truck is not rated to tow that weight, legally.

 

EDIT: Nevermind just realized you said you got the NHT package. Slick looking truck!

I have the 2014 LT with the tow package and I'm getting 10-12 MPG towing a 7600 north trail it tows great with no issues
