Changed wheels Need to reset pressure sensors

I hope they changed things for '12, because my '07 is a royal pain in the ass ....

The procedure is outlined in the owners manual. With my '07, it seemed GM set it up so if you try and do it yourself the first time, it won't go through ... requiring a trip to the dealer, so they can wave their $400 magic wand around the wheels to reset & program them, and then try and upsell you overpriced maintenance you usually don't need.

I had to get in the DIC, select "program TPM" or something to that affect .... then when you press the button, you have to run outside starting with the left front (marker light will be lit corresponding to the wheel your supposed to be on) and let air out of the tire until the horn toots ... then run to the next wheel (right front), then the right rear, then ending with the left rear .... and THEN it's SUPPOSED to toot the horn 3x, indicating it was all set.

In my case I wasted 2 friggin hours chasing the damn lights around the truck, only to be left hanging with NOTHING on the 4th wheel! :banghead: I swear if I were in reach of a GM engineer at that point ....

After they waved the magic wand around, everything was good ... and it actually worked when I bought a new set of wheels in '09. Got sick and tired of the procedure, so I set my new wheels to the sensors, and left the OEM wheels with the winter tires alone - I just deal with the yellow light blinding me all winter long. Better than dealing with that stupid assed programming. Boy I'll tell ya!!

Kent Moore sells a TPMS reset tool for GM cost is around $70, takes about 2 minutes to reset all four sensors.

Good to see the prices finally came down on that stuff. Now that's a reasonable price.

Still, I'll deal with the light. Much cheaper than $70. :)

I have two sets of rims with tpms on them but I need to be able to recalibrate the truck so it knows there are a new set of rims. Where do I get this box?

This is the easiest and the very same tool my dealer used to reset my sensors.

Put a set of chrome wheels on my 2012 Silverado 1500LT and my TPS needs to be reset. How can I do that?

Dealer or a shop ,

Not a truck owners tool to have period
