Hollow boom sound from truck bed

My 2014 Sierra makes a hollow boom sound when I go over some road bumps at slower speeds. It defiantly sounds like the sheet metal from the bed is bouncing. It’s not to extreme but has me wondering if this is normal. It’s very easy to hear when going over railroad tracks. Thoughts?

Stand on the back bumper and bounce up and down, its common for the rear shocks to go defective and make a clunking noise.

Mine does it too. Did it before with the stock shocks and still does it with my bilsteins. Thought it would get better after having Line-X installed too. Still the same. Dunno what it is exactly.

Check to see if the flimsy sheet metal heatshield underneath is bent up so that its really close to the body. It flexes really easily and could be bouncing off the body. I bent mine down a little in the middle to keep it from doing that.

My 2014 Sierra has a hollow sounding thump noticeable when driving slow on a bumpy road. I think it is something in the suspension, maybe the shocks. Took it to the dealer but they could not hear it. So I am taking it back and let them ride with me. It's not noticeable when I first get in the truck and drive, but becomes very evident after driving a little while.

I had a really bad thunking and booming sound for a while in the bed of mine, not even just over bumps.

 

 

It was an old Horton's cup that was flying around.

I haven't heard it since I installed my leaf spring straps.

its common for axle wrap to cause the leafs to slap, that could be what was causing the sound.

      It wouldn’t have happened if the government hadn’t mandated outrageous fuel mileage standards. It does very little for the consumer. It adds cost. Back during Covid there was a chip shortage. They gave a rebate for your truck if it didn’t have the chip to turn on cylinder deactivation. It was 50$ because at best you may see 1/2 a mile increase per gallon. Splitting hairs each fuel mileage trick wasn’t mandated. The government doesn’t do the engineering work and say use this until it’s already in use and they like it. The fuel mileage was mandated. And those add ons the results. There’s a mandate and they are the results.

      It was never mandated.  Ever.    Automakers were incentivized to install it by getting CAFE credits to help with their vehicle fleet fuel economy scores.  They were being handed money/CAFE credits to install it.  Which is NOT a mandate.       The current admin removed the incentives that were behind them installing it.

      My brand new 2007 Silverado's wax frame was rust from end to end partway through it's SECOND winter here in MA. That stuff is completely useless.
