audio hookup @ rear of truck?

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to have a hookup for speakers at the rear or my truck. What's the best way? Bluetooth speakers? Can they be paired to my radio?

How about aux speaker jacks? I don't want to use my phone...i want to hook up speakers for tailgating, etc.

This seems very intricate and i havent done car audio since my 96 pontiac sundouche.

Thanks in advance.

Truck bed. Even something tucked under the rear bumper.

I am no expert, but if you just want sound outside, maybe just splice from the front door speakers. (they are probably higher powered, and you can just run the wire through the door and under the truck to the back.) for the additional speakers, you will need waterproof speakers for sure.

Definitely add an amp though, that will boost the signals better.

I'm not looking for anything fancy...I'd like to either mount two speakers in the bed, under the bumper, or be able to plug in speakers when needed with RCA jacks, etc.

I could add the kicker sound upgrade and tap into the signal wires coming off of that but I'm hoping someone already did this and can point me in the easiest direction.

I'm not worried about top end quality, etc, and I would be able to run wires out the shift cable boot (where my power tailgate lock is entering the cab from) and get a hookup for even a single speaker.

I'll keep looking at options and I could always go to a shop and get a quote.

Thanks.

So just an update and any more advice is welcomed...

I bought the kicker sub and amp upgrade for my non-bose crew cab.

I'm hoping I can tap into the amp wires (which I think mounts up under the dash) and run the wires to the back of the truck. At this time, I'd really like to somehow run an aux hookup out there too to plug an ipod into.

Anyone ever try this?

I love this site but it makes me spend $$$

Thanks

I love my kicker upgrade but if you run off the highs you're only going to hear a little mid and some treble. I would go to a stereo shop and run a LOC and a small amplifier and a couple marine speakers out back. wouldnt cost a million and would perform MUCH MUCH MUCH better.

you have to be careful when just 'splicing' into another speaker...speakers are not like electrical systems because every time you put a speaker in line with another one, you are changing the ohms of the speaker (which can fry the speaker and / or the radio / amp.

SO for example, the factory speakers are rated at 8 ohms, hooking up another speaker (in parallel) will drop it in half to 4 ohms... if you radio is only rated at 8 ohm output.. you see the issue..

best bet is some type of Bluetooth speaker or amp system that has proper ohm ratings.

good luck!
