Does anyone remember this???

Lt. Col.Oliver North testifying at the Iran-Contra hearings during the Reagan administration.

There was Ollie in front of God and country getting the third degree.

But what he said was stunning!!

He was being drilled by some senator; "Did you not recently spend close to $60,000 for a home security system?"

Ollie replied, "Yes I did sir."

The senator continued, trying to get a laugh out of the audience,"Isn't this just a little excessive?"

'No sir,' continued Ollie.

"No? And why not?" the senator asked.

"Because the lives of my family and I were threatened sir."

'Threatened? By whom?" the senator questioned.

'By a terrorist, sir.'Ollie answered.

'Terrorist? What terrorist could possibly scare you that much?"

"His name is Osama bin Laden, Sir." Ollie replied.

At this point the senator tried to repeat the name, but couldn't pronounce it, which most people back then probably couldn't. A couple of people laughed at the attempt. Then the senator continued.

"Why are you so afraid of this man?" the senator asked.

"Because sir, he is the most evil person alive that I know of,"

Ollie answered.

"And what do you recommend we do about him?" asked the senator.

"Well sir, if it were up to me, I would recommend that an assassin team be formed to eliminate him and his men from the face of the earth."

The senator disagreed with this approach.

If anyone is interested, the Senator turned out to be none other than AL GORE!.

My dad showed that to me the other night.  I think I still have it sitting in my room.  It's very odd and scary.  I know that they've had several chances to kill osama but never took them.  Hindsight being 20/20 it would have been great if they had.

Dangit Newbie, you beat me to that question.

Yeah, bassdog, we need to go fishing sometime. The biggest bass I've caught out here in Colorado is 4lbs 6oz weighed on a digital scale. I doubt that would even be in your top 1000 fish.  I mostly use tubes on a jig head of some sort. I was starting to jig & pig, but the pond I was fishing at was on Hewlett Packard property and I quit working there and kind of quit fishing for the year. Too hard to get my scheduel to work with my buddies who are still there.

I've caught one bass in my whole life.  In a golf course water hazard at the age of 12.  All the rest of my fishing was on the Chesapeake or Gulf of Mexico, mostly the gulf.  Redfish, snapper, grouper, etc.  Man I do miss that.  The best part of livingin Florida was fishing.  I could decide on the way home from work to go and within 45 minutes of getting home I was in the boat fishing.  Very close and easy.  Up here in New York you have to PLAN.  Especially the fly fishing.  No spontaneous going.  It not as much fun.  Also, I have no knoweldge on the fishing up here so its like starting all over again.

What part of New Yawk is the town you live in, Newbie? My wife is trying to sleep while I'm typing this, and I can't turn on the light to look at the atlas.

My company has offices in Amherst and some in NJ, so I may look you up when I travel that way again if it is anywhere near where I'll be.

Only one bass, geez.  About 20 miles south of home there is a bunch of strip mines that I go fishing in.  Talk about catching bass, one afternoon I went with two older guys, between the three of us we caught 33 that we kept, they had to be huge to keep too.  dang that was fun.  The best part of the day was when I caught two fish with one cast, hooked one in the mouth, the other one was caught right in the middle of his back.

That HP pond had me spoiled. I would get tired from cranking them in on some days. Especially if I was running a lipped crankbait of some sort.

Me and a buddy would bring our fishing stuff to work, and then when we got off work we'd go to a gas station that was a block away and grab a Big Ed's Flying Saucer ( I think), which is an icecream/cookie thing and head to the pond. We'd be out there until 11pm or so, and be giggling like a couple of school girls while we were hauling them in in the dark. The lights from nearby softball fields made some cool places to cast at and the edges would hold bass. We got exercise, too, because the boats were those 2-man pedal type. We'd be out there, in the dark, only guys on the pond....blooooosh-blooooosh, bloooooooosh-bloooooooshing along. Ice cream and sunflower seeds got us through the night.

We didn't keep any of them because that property is supposedly contaminated, slightly. That's why HP bought it from Colorado Memory Systems and bought them, too. To shut them up. Most of the bass looked okay, but a few of them didn't. Deformed lips, etc. Maybe that's normal, I dunno. I haven't seen any like that in the other places I've fished.

I've done that before, only I had both of them hooked in the mouth.  Either the lure looked pretty good, or they were fighting over it.

As for my best fishing day, that happened about two years ago.  I won a free two day guided fishing trip to a lake about 50 miles northwest of where I live.  It was a 2 day deal, and I could bring 2 other people with me.  We were supposed to be fishing for catfish as this was in the first of August and it was really hot.  Well the day before we showed up a cold front came through and cooled the high temps down into the 60's vs the high 90's it had been previously.  So instead of fishing for catfish we went after white bass (or sand bass) because the cold weather got the schooling at the top of the water chasing shad.  Just watch for the seagulls diving towards the water, and go fish there.  Between my dad, uncle, myself and the guide, we caught over 300 white bass before lunch the first day.  On the second day we caught over 400 white bass by lunch time.  Needless to say, we ate alot of fish that winter.   :D

As for largemouth bass, I've been on a slump lately.  About two years ago we had a really wet spring that brough most of the farm ponds up about 6-7 feet.  That spring and summer I fished the farm ponds I know and spent about 3 weeks fishing with my uncle who lives down in Oklahoma.  I caught over 20 bass that weighed between 4 and 5 lbs.  Since then, I haven't caught a bass over 3 lbs. Guess I used up all my luck for awhile.
