Break-in questions

Just to comment on engine break-in oil, according to my side mechanic, the engine is broken in at the factory for the ring seals to seat properly in the cylinders and you can't do this with any kind of synthetic oil because synthetic lubricates too well and won't let the proper break-in occur. So they either use conventional oil of some type or something else to break it in, drain it, and then put in fresh 0W-20 so any type of initial break-in has already happened and the first round of debris has been drained out.

Very true - a lot of Silverados hit the ground running, so that's a good case for break-in procedures not being as critical for longevity, or so it seems these days.

The last couple of days have been a good exercise in getting to know the truck via back roads and some freeway too. 360 miles on the clock as of this afternoon, now home for the weekend. The "new engine" smell has definitely become less noticeable.

It's going to need a tank of gas soon. I need to mentally prepare myself. BUT...I did not buy this to get good fuel economy...
