Hey guys im new to the forum and just recently traded in my 2010 dodge ram 5.7l Hemi with tranny issues (second one for that matter) for a 2014 GMC Sierra SLT Z71 and while i love the truck it seems to be awfully loud while at idle almost like an air or vaccum leak maybe. Brought it to the dealer and they said it is the new high pressure fuel pump that is in the engine bay.....i find it hard to believe but havent got to do alot of research on it just yet...any thoughts?? thanks alot

If it's a loud ticking like sound then it's the new high pressure injectors for the direct injection

Im offshore right now but i dont know if i noticed a ticking and if i did its very slight....more of and air sound

I believe what you're hearing was the engine runing in 4-cyl mode.

I think I have the same sound. Sounds like a vacuum leak you can hear most pronounced in the driver's side wheel well. Something on the engine, perhaps the power steering pump, is making that noise. It is definitely something down low because I was worried it was coming from my catch can on the spare battery area. Don't know if its normal or not, as it hasn't given me any problems.

These new K2 trucks don't have hydraulic steering. It's electric rack and pinion now.

Couldn't be. He did say during idle and these trucks always idle in V8/V6 mode.Iv'e had times where I was coasting slow to a stop while in V4 and it switched to V8 right before I came to a complete stop. It wouldn't save much more gas to be in V4 while idling so it's best to go ahead and have it in V8 for when you pull off. That's why I'm glad these trucks don't have the start/stop feature like some of the GM cars do.

Yes it is at idle.....and i have too noticed that it is V8 at idle and when you come to a stop as well becuse i just got the truck so i mainly keep it on my MPH screen on the gauge cluster

K2 is the platform of the new body style. Well it's short for K2xx. It's like how the 88-98 were GMT-400, then GMT-800, then GMT-900.

Like others have said, the ticking you hear at idle is the direct injection system. They are louder than port fuel injectors. Its because they are high pressure fuel injectors.

Yeah, on my truck the vacuum sound is not that. Its actually is the return hose from my catch can. Doesn't seem to have a hole in it, and the system is collecting oil. But if I pinch the hose, the noise stops. Guess it is just the vacuum being drawn through it...

There's that trick you can do with a little soap and water, where you see bubbles is where the hole or leak is at. Could also be one of the fittings that maybe you don't have tight enough or something.

No it's just the vacuum on the hoses sucking it tighter. Does it on my catch can as well. I believe I'm using transmission hose like other members recommended but still makes the sound. One member used hydraulic hose. Ain't no way that is gonna vacuum down/ collapse
