2014 Silverado 1500 5.3 Oil Capacity

I was wondering if anyone else has run into this. I did an oil and filter change on my 2014 Silverado V8 5.3L. The specifications clearly state that the capacity is 8.5 Quarts with a filter change. I put 8.5 quarts in the truck but the oil stick shows about a 1/2 quart or so to much oil now. Fortunately I didn't yet dispose of the old oil. I measured it and it came to 7.5 quarts. I drained the truck till there was almost no oil coming out of the drain and the oil filter hole. Any ideas of what I possibly did wrong or am I missing something here? (First Oil change on the truck that I have done and I have never run into this with any other vehicle in all the years.)

Haven't measured the drain volume, but be advised that GM came out with a bulletin stating they changed the oil fill amount with filter to 8 quarts. If you use 8.5, it will show over filled by ½ quart. There is a thread on here with the bulletin info posted.

Spec was revised early this year or late last year to 8 quarts on 5.3 and 6.2 2014 and up 1500 trucks.

no need to drain it. I have had 4 oil changes, putting 8.5qts of oil in. engine is fine. I wouldn't worry about it.
