Front firewall area creaking/groaning?

odd noise has developed over the last month. I've started to get an occasional creaking/groaning coming from the drivers foot well/front firewall area.

At first, i noticed it on the highway when it was windy with the cruise on, i at first thought it was the gas peddle moving some with the cruise control adjusting and figured no big deal, i'll look later. noted that it continued even with cruise off and coasting with foot off gas, so, i think i ruled out the gas or break peddle.

i hear if from time to time, and if i had to describe it, it would be (describing sound, not saying this is it) almost like if my front left shock/suspension was squeaking/groaning and as i drove, the front end was slowly being pushed up or down ever so slightly to a slight creaking sound that lasts 1-2 seconds.

it comes from by my left foot/front of firewall in that area.

I've done my best to rule out steering wheel movements, break or gas pedal movements, it is intermittent and happens slightly more frequently now, sometimes at speeds as slow as 45 and up to 70+ highway speeds.

it is more prevalent when its windy out regardless of vehicle speed and definitely is coming form my driver foot well.

just odd. i'm trying diagnose still. i have pressed some on the front drivers side but didn't hear any suspension noises. i'm not sure if its some metal piece flexing (i can see my hood flex some sometimes when gusts of wind hit the front end or i pass a semi).

anyone else having this or hearing anything like this? OAT's have been between upper 60's and mid 90's.

For the past few weeks I've been hearing a very annoying squeak coming from the steering wheel of my 2 month old truck! This morning, in the parking lot at work, I finally crawled under the dash and found that it was coming from the steering shaft - firewall penetration area. Gave it a shot of silicone lubricant... will see if it helps when I leave work. If not, well at least I've got it narrowed down to the area.

Maybe yours is the same? Good luck!
