Rear back up sensors??

Sensors use ultrasound, not radar and ultrasound has its limitations. And just like the stealth fighters angle of reflectance and composition of the target material makes a big difference. Could have been a wood fence with a greatrer amount of sound absorption capability or chain link with small overall surface area and curved poles dispersing sound reluctance.

Cross traffic alerts and blind spot detection systems in my Impala and Malibu use radar which bounces cleanly off metal cars and moving objects and they detect objects objects to which thye ultrasounds sensors in the bumper are "blind". Radar detects objects before they are visible in the rear camera, in particular the cross traffic alert can scare the crap out of you because it detects approaching objects and flashes alerts with a directional arrow before they are visible in the camera screen and not a beep from the ultrasound sensors..

like others say, speed angle, etc. I've watched them while the kids walk in front of the truck there's delay there and even then they don't seem all that accurate in detection some time. Helpful on some occasions like with a level and judging how close you're pulling into a parking sport with a car on the other side, and I suppose something is better than nothing in the case of pulling/backing in.

but wouldn't be a big deal if I didn't have them, the rear camera is 100x more useful and if I had a front even better.

I can tell you for a fact they don't go off nor will they prevent when you fender bender someone in the rear =)

It's just another tool in the shed. I've found it protects the rear corners better than the camera. My first time backing it out of the dealer's lot I was a lot closer to the corner than I thought looking through the camera. Since it was fairly inexpensive to do, I went with it. If the dealer had a truck on the lot that was the same price as mine with the backup sensors, I would have bought that. But I couldn't beat the price on this truck.
