Rear back up sensors??

Recommended Posts

So yesterday I was backing up in my driveway and watching the camera I looked away for a split second to make sure I wasn't going to hit the wife's car.....And BANG I hit the railing on my steps....my sensors did not beep to let me know I was close to anything....I know have a dent in my bumper....colour matched at that...I hate chrome....

I'm guessing something like this wouldn't be covered under warranty.....Maybe the non working sensors...but I doubt the bumper...Am I correct in my thinking??

I don't know if I should be mad or embarrassed!!! I think I will go with out the sensors...I think I came to rely on them!!!

FML

quoted $500 to do Paintless dent repair.....at that price, I'll just spend the extra and get a brand new bumper....I will try to post a pic

that sucks but yeah I don't think there's any way that would be covered. it might not even be non working sensors, just the railing was so narrow it didn't get picked up or was between the fields or something.

you can see in the pic the dent is right between the sensors and depending on what was there they might not have beeped. When I was backing up using the camera/sensors (just got the truck) I backed into my neighbors house because the rear bumper extends farther then the cameras view. Thought I could clear it but I was wrong and embarrassed, had to call geico.

My wife was backing out the garage with the camera and wasn't paying attention to passenger mirror and bashed it off on the house/garage door haha. Now she uses the camera and checks the mirrors, over the shoulder etc

The tools are suppose to be used just as that tools not replace the old fashion look over the shoulder and use mirrors

I had the same thing happen last summer except with my front bumper. Ended up hitting a receiver hitch on the front of an old Suburban. Prepare to be flamed for asking the question. They are a tool...for what? Personally i see no point of the parking sensors. You can't rely on them to not hit what you can't see out of the tiny back window or tall hoodline, so what purpose do they serve?

That happened to me this past winter. It was snowing and was backing in my driveway. Really couldn't see, it was night and snowing pretty hard. Was waiting for my back up sensors to beep once like I always do, but it never beeped at all and I barely tapped the side wall of the garage. Truck wasn't even two months old, so decided to get it fixed.....

$1500+ to fix the color matched bumper.... It's all one piece. They said they can't fix dents in that bumper.

I say if backup sensors and or rear camera save one child's life then it is worth it to have on every car in the world. When children are too short to be seen above the tailgate those tools are invaluable. Metal, fiberglass, and plastic can be repaired but as of yet no amount of money can bring a dead child back to life.

I agree, but my system doesn't sense "people" walking in front or in back of my truck. It always amazes me how people will continue to walk right behind me in a parking lot when im already in the process of baking up. I see them on the camera and from turning around, but my sensors dont buzz the seat or flash in the DIC. Still wouldnt count on them to catch that toddler on the big wheel either. The system isnt reliable enough to count on.

Sensors are nice and everything, but one thing I hate with driving the new Tahoe is the fact that they made the quarter panels higher and the headrest higher, those two combined make it almost impossible to look over your shoulder to back up, took me almost a year to find the right sensor and over the shoulder mix. The sensors are just there to aid. I am an old school driver, if you don't look over both shoulders, look in both side views, and look in the rear view, then you are not backing right.

Mine have chirped at me when I was trying to get as close as I could to my GFs vehicle in my driveway (front sensors), I watch the indicator light up in the DIC and never try to light up more than 3. But mine have also chirped when I am driving down a narrow alleyway with plenty of room on both sides so it's strange. While watching my backup cam it will usually beep at an object that is approaching as I am backing up with a little triangle and exclamation symbol inside.

Railing is probably too narrow, but my sensors have beeped with short, stout objects behind me. I would expect them to pickup a child or something.

Camera is nice, sensors seem to work, but no fancy system can replace caution and turning head/using mirrors.

Hey guys I'm new to this a can't start a new topic. I have a 2014 silverado LT. I was wondering if there is a way to replace my bumper to the one with the park assist. I know if it is possible I will have to replace the front controls to turn it on and off.

BUMP: I have a new 2015 Sierra SLT but it appears that it only comes with the rear camera and not the sensors, unless I've missed something in the settings somewhere. Can anyone corroborate or comment? It's really frustrating that my 2011 Camaro SS had sensors but this huge truck doesn't. Is this how it is, or are my bumpers/sensors faulty?

They come with the SLT preferred package so no they are not standard equipment. Under your HVAC controls you have toggle switches to control various things. If the one on the far right is lit all the time and has a big P on it that's your park sensors. Plus you have little silver round heads across the front and rear bumpers.

The option package included, heated steering wheel, front and rear park sensors, rear window defroster and power rear slider. If you don't have that package you don't have park sensors.

I don't rely on my sensors for anything.... most of the time they are covered in mud in the summer time and frost or snow in the winter time rendering them completely useless... much like the camera. I am old fashioned and use my mirrors......

Whoever ordered the truck didn't check that box.

UD7 Rear Park Assist, Ultrasonic - optional on SLE and SLT, as part of optional packages

UD5 Front and Rear Park Assist, Ultrasonic - optional only on SLT, as part of optional packages

FWIW, UD5 is standard on 2015 Denali

In 2016, UD5 is also available on SLE
