Signing Paperwork Before The Truck Arrives

Question to the people that have signed for their truck while it was still in transit and after it had a VIN. Did you have to pay the dealer at that time, or just sign paperwork and hand over money after it arrived and was inspected?

My truck was already built and shipped. I am scheduled to be back in the states on July 26 and pick up my truck on July 27.

I am thinking if there is a really good 4th of July sale this weekend then I can have a family member with power of attorney sign for the truck just to lock in the savings.

A down payment (around 500 bucks) should have been enough of a good faith move to hold the truck.

I have a good relationship with the dealer. I put $0 down and they will absolutely hold the truck for me. They have been great.

I am talking if GM comes out with an extra $1000 or $1500 to purchase this weekend or some other deal that I should jump on, that might be a motivator to sign early paperwork.

Don't sign anything until you have a chance to take the truck on the highway for a period of time at speeds from 65-85 and determine whether or not it has a vibration issue.

i get what you're trying to do; i had them run my deal through early to lock in an extra grand in coupons. I guess it just depends if you're willing to take the risk to own the truck before seeing it in person. I did it and havent had any problems but I know the dealer. The vibration issue is a serious risk

I've been talking with a few different dealerships on ordering one and they've all said that the deals are going to keep getting better or at least stay the same as the months go on for getting the 2015's out for the 16's. Current rebates expire 6/30 so a new list will be out the next day, might be able to get your dealership to tell you when those expire and weigh out your risks.

I am in a similar situation, I have one ordered that should arrive in 6 weeks. They told me the same thing about rebates only increasing and never decreasing. I hope they are right but at the same time I would never sign for anything that I couldn't see in front of me. I must look trustworthy too because they didn't even ask me for a deposit.

I would never sign anything early. All benefit goes to the dealer and none to you. If a deal is there on July 4th it will be there July 27. Now it may not be there Aug 1.

The same rebates that expired 6/30/15 are extended until 8/31/15.

My dealership has been pre-selling the 6.2 trucks like crazy as they are high demand. I guess I'm one of the fools that signed early to lock in the truck I wanted. It will be here within a week, I'm crossing my fingers that everything is OK and that there is no vibration issue.

They could probably honor any deals when it arrives. I wouldn't sign anything until it gets there, you do a good look over to make sure nothing is damaged and of course a good test drive. Do not sign anything that is signed with the finance (FI) person. They will need the exact miles anyways for the warranty. Signing now instead of later will only save about 30 minutes which isn't worth it if there's some problem with it when it arrives.

I did this once with a Honda Accord for the wife. The vehicle was wrecked in transit and it was a nightmare to get it taken care of. Please do NOT sign any paperwork ahead of time. Any potential savings are not worth the potential hassle in case there is an unforeseen problem.

Things worked out nicely for me. I presigned for the truck and waited a month. Truck arrived in perfect condition and has no vibration issue or weird shift/trans problems.
