Not bashing on the TPMS. It's a good thing for most people.

But don't you think that you'd have felt that something isn't right before you hit the highway?

A slow leak is pretty much impossible to feel until it's too late. It also depends on a lot of other factors including the tire size and construction. My 05 Sierra wears a set of BFG ATs in load range E that have such thick sidewalls, I've had one down to 10 PSI and barely noticed it needed air (no TPMS in my 05).

TPMS has been great for my slow leaks I wouldn't of otherwise noticed until it is too late.

Useless when a light comes on the dash when you're already limping to the side of the road.

TPMS is one of the few truly useful gingerbread features on my truck, and one of the few gingerbread features that gets used regularly. I check tire pressures, like many of you, before beginning a high speed and long road trip. I also check them regularly during the long days, with TPMS while driving. My 2008 LTZ had this feature as well. There's a lot of crap on these trucks I could do without. TPMS with actual pressures is one feature I find has actual value.

My wife's fully loaded 2013 Ford Flex has many features in the computer than exceed my 2014 SLT features, but it doesn't have the ability to read individual tire pressures. Just low pressure warning. Really disappointed about that.

I recall seeing very consistent pressures on my 2008 for months/years. One day, I saw a slightly low pressure. That caused me to check the tire. It had a screw in it. I fixed it before it was a problem that put me on the side of the road.

I, too, use this tool to my advantage. Checking the tire pressure daily w/o pulling into a gas station.

And I agree, it's useful to detect slow leaks before they become a problem.

The situation described by the OP was different. The tire was already deflated and it sounded like the TPMS was the only way to discover that.

And since I'm old school I do a walk around before I drive away. Always.

I like it too, even though I still check pressures manually every other week or so and find them generally consistent. Just last week the TPMS reported a "low" reading through OnStar to my dealer where I had a routine appointment scheduled for oil, etc. Son of a gun, on the status report I got on leaving there was an entry that the "low" tire pressure had been checked and corrected. They claimed only 2PSI on the report, but still, it was kind of impressive.

Funny thing was that the TPMS -> Onstar reported a value that was like 5PSI lower than the tire pressure actually was. Must have caught the reading on an exceptionally chilly night or something.

Technology is nice and everything but it only confirms what I noticed from my walk around. The vehicle may also lean to one side or the other with low tire pressure

I spend hours on the road between stops. I find it interesting to see how the pressure increases while driving, pulling, time of day, outside temp.

The Denalis have an inclinometer so you can see if you are tilting. So if you don't know if you are about to tip over, you can check.

JK...I like all this stuff.
