2012 Sierra 1500 Leveling Kit Experince

Hello,

I just wanted to share my experience with the leveling kit I had put on my truck.

Truck:

2012 GMC Sierra 1500 EXT CAB 4X4 5.3L V8 SWB

Level Kit:

Rough Country 2" inch Suspension Spacer Kit

Info:

The kit was very well priced. It was about 80 bucks shipped from RC themselves. It came with instruction, but they are not for beginner mechanics. I was originally going to follow what they planned but after looking at my new trucks suspension I pretty much laughed and did it my own way...

The kit is a two small under strut spacers. It does not go over the top of the coil assembly. Long story short - loosen ball join and knock it loose (don't take the bolt off), loosen sway bar link. Between those two you should have about 3" play in the strut.

It was pretty easy to install for the most part. If you have air tools and a lift its a quick 1 hour job.

I put those on my 2013 GMC also, but took me a little longer than an hour. :) and I have a lift. Definitely helped that nose in the dirt look.

I did the spacers on top of the strut. Took about 2 hours to do. I am waiting for the OEM tires to wear out before going with a set of 2015 chrome 20" GMC A/T style rims.

I added Billstein 5100 height adjustable struts to the front of my 2010 Silverado 1500 crew cab 4x4 Z71 with the struts at the highest setting and then I took it to the dealer to be aligned. Here is an after photo (driven few hundred miles since alignment).

I had the Rough Country bottom spacer kit on both trucks, install in about 30mins., (I help out at a 4x4 shop in my free time & have installed many lift kits) it should take up to 2hrs. if you're a first timer. Very simple install.

I replaced the RC spacers with Rancho Quick Lift struts and rear RS9000XL's to match. The ride is much improved over OEM and with the spacer. My front measures identical with both lifts. At some point I plan on installing the RC top spacer for a little extra front lift. They offer it seperate from the 2.5" kit for $25.00.
