Fixed the A/C in the ol 79 K10

Decided to fix the A/C in my 1979 K10.

Cost me less than $500 to get it fixed.

I bought the following parts new and installed myself. Saved some $$$ at Rockauto

Evaporator

Accumulator

Main A/C Hose from compressor to Accumulator

Hose from condenser to accumulator - could only find at LMC

O-ring kit

Belt

just under $300

Took to local mechanic to have system evacuated and flushed.

System held a vacuum

Converted from R12 to R134A

Charged with R134A

$200

Just wanted to let people know it's not crazy expensive if you do most of the work yourself, then have it professionally charged.

Kept stock condenser.

I guess there is newer design? It was 85 today and A/C was ice cold on highway. It would warm a bit when stopped at a light but through town it seemed to cool fine.

The original condenser isn't efficient enough to shed heat using 134a. That's why most conversion include the condenser

Thanks!

I thought about selling it awhile back but couldn't do it :-) A few years back you would see this body style all over the road but now The few I see are hammered ones or 8 - 10 in lift with cut fenders.

I will get mine repainted some day but then I won't want to take it off road lol.

A/C wasn't expensive to fix if you replace most parts yourself from Rockauto, Online, Etc.

I should have fixed it 10 years ago lol. Nice having it on hot days. My mpg sucks anyway.
