My 13 5.3 ext cab averaged 15 mpg...sucked.

My 14 5.3 crew averages 19 in the same conditions.

4 mpg x 22 gal tank is 80 more miles each fill up. You're saving like ten bucks a tank. Over a year filling up once a week like i do, you save approx 5 to 600 bucks...

My cost of ownership might have gone up but it costs less to run and it's so much of a nicer vehicle.

Go with the new platform.

is 19mpg a mix of city/hwy? my grand prix does the same which is sad.

If this is a topic that has been covered in another post I apologize, but Is there a best configuration to get the best bang for your buck? Say I'm looking at Silverado LT All Star edition; is it a good deal to find a truck with or without this package? or find a truck with some of the other convience packages? If i could get an LT under $35k that would be in my budget. I don't want to be in over my head financially as a newly-wed which is why I am not looking, or need, a LTZ or SLT.

Comparing a 7000 pound truck with a v8 to your 3500 pound grand prix is sad.

Right? The oonly way i get better than 18 is if im taking a 4 hr drive then i can get close to 28mpgs but 60/40 hwy/city gets me 17-18

I am going to be buying in a few months. I have been looking, like you for over 6 months and have noticed that the best bang for your buck configuration is the 5.3 LT Crew Cab 4X4 Allstar editiion or the SLE GMC version. When you hear people getting 10-13k off MSRP, 90% of the time it is on that configuration. $35K should be possible for sure.

Edit: The reason is mostly due the the fact that over 50% and up to 70% of the trucks on the lots are this configuration. When the rebates are high, they are always on that configuration.

While the new 4.3 is a drastic improvement over the old 4.3, it is not more powerful that the last 5.3 Vortec. Power rating of 285 vs. 315 or 320 HP depending on what application it was installed.

Maybe I mistook what I read. I think some people say that the new Ecotec 4.3 is more responsive and feels more powerful that the previous 5.3.

Is there a way to spot an All Star edition driving around the dealership?

Other than looking at the sticker, I don't think so. Since the All Star Edition is just a conglomeration of popular options. That being said, you would probably if there is an LT crew cab on the lot, I would assume about an 80% chance that it is an All Star Edition, specifically if it has an 8 inch display.

Good to know, thanks raym. I have got my list of trucks narrowed down the last few months, thanks to this forum and others. Pretty sure it is Chevy Silverado LT vs Ram 1500 Express vs Ram 1500 Big Horn vs Chevy Colorado. I had the 2014 F150 on my list, but dropped that for a couple reasons. the 2015 isnt even an option; don't want a twin turbo motor or an aluminum body.

Honestly, for mainly the small towing needs and for home depot/menards runs a few times a month the Chevy Colorado is the perfect fit for me but dealers wont come off the MSRP much with no incentives available.

If you look on the site, the All Star Edition and convenience package both have pretty much the same things. Maybe one is with Z71 and the other is without Z71. Just look at the RPO codes, All Star Edition is PDU.

Biased opinion here but check out a used 2015 SLE All Terrain. They are popular rental spec or short term company trucks for mgmt level folks.

Comes standard with 5.3, E-Locker, 3.42 gears, Z71, console, and colour matched body parts.

I know in the US they should be well below $35K

They aren't popular in my area, and I dont think I have seen one in person. I loved how the older All Terrains looked especially in that metalic blue/grey.
