I have the 4" screen and never feel like I'm lacking anything. I never played with the 8" much so I don't really know what I'm missing though.

I do like the steering wheel buttons though.

Do you have the controls on both sides of the steering wheel?

Mine has the 8" and I saw the smaller screen in another truck and it was no way I would get the smaller screen. When I worked at the local dealer I had to ride with someone to go pick up a Silverado for service and it was a basic LT with the 4.2" screen and it was nothing compared to the 8". Once you play with an 8" screen you'll want one. I don't even have built in Nav and it's still great. Same goes for the gauge cluster, I like the one in my LT much better than one that comes in a WT. Mind you I'm not the type that wants all of the bells and whistles, I like some things while not liking other things. My LT Z71 has the All Star Edition so it's loaded except for leather seats and anything that comes in the LT Plus package.

Yes, right and left, front and back of the wheel. More specifically I'd say I love all the info screens in the gauge cluster, which I'm assuming if a truck doesn't have the arrow buttons to navigate it won't have the info screens.

I don't doubt that's the case at all. Come to think of it, I don't know if I ever did use a 8" screen, since I was only looking at regular cabs and they didn't have them at all at the time. I did sit in one double cab but didn't turn it on.

I have used an all touch screen in a loaner Malibu and Terrain and didn't feel like I wanted them, but since I was only in them for maybe an hour maybe it was just a case of it not being what I was used to.

I only use it to see what song is playing and backing up really. I'm not sure what else the 8" does since I don't have or use GPS/NAV.

Now my info screens in the dash, those I couldn't go without.

The 8" screen does the same things your radio does and without Nav then only the human interface is different

I plan on buying around the new years, maybe January or February. I'd love to get a truck in a month or so, but I am getting married the end of September and have those expenses yet.

You're getting married in September? Did you discuss this purchase with your future wife yet? :)

Or check her credit? When I married my wife I was then blessed with her credit and debt.

Sweet, I'm set then.

If this helps...

I was looking at 2011-2013 used pickups. Preferably a CC 5.3L. Average price was around $28-30K.

I ended up LEASING a 2015. I didn't really compare many options - my requirements were to have the full tow package with brake control. My buddy (a GMC employee) found me an SLE Z71.

My reasoning was this - I am using this as daily driver to occasionally tow 34ft. travel trailer (save it for another thread). Used truck payment was $500-600. I wanted to stay under $500. Lease was $456 for 3 years with a $26K buyout.

I figured if I don't like it or want a 2500, I can turn it in. If I like it (and I dooo), I can buy it for less than the current market...but have had it since new. Buyout is less, and even though I am stretching financing a bit more, it made it more affordable and appealing to me.

If budgets and trim packaging are limiting your choice on the center entertainment/nav screen, I'd recommend you consider aftermarket for the radio/nav rather than the OEM. There are many to chose from in the 6-7" size and a couple in the 8-9" size.

I have a LTZ with nav and hardly use it. I am about to buy another Garmin because I can do topo maps and they don't lock out when in motion. The top end Garmin I'm looking at is less than an unlock mod for the OEM nav and comes with a wireless backup camera I plan to use for the front since I have a backup camera.

Things I find very useful are reading tire pressure on each tire thru TPMS and Bluetooth phone use thru the speakers and built in microphone. I don't use many of the features in my truck.

The 4.3 V6 in the K2s have more power than the older 5.3 V8s so just imagine the new 5.3 Ecotecs and then of course the 6.2 Ecotec.

While the new 4.3 is a drastic improvement over the old 4.3, it is not more powerful that the last 5.3 Vortec. Power rating of 285 vs. 315 or 320 HP depending on what application it was installed.

K2xx. Hands down. I regularly go between my 2014 Sierra, and a 2011 Silverado Hybrid, both with similar mileage, and the k2xx just rides so much quieter and smoother. Less road noise, fewer interior squeeks and rattles, and so much nicer interior.

I've been bothering her daily with my research for the last 6 months so yeah she knows.

I can't speak for the 900 series but i can tell you i love my 15 z71 CC LT. They have some quirks but i don't dwell on them. It's a great truck. When i bought mine the salesman admitted he couldn't sell me a 2-3 yr old used one with 30k miles for the deal i worked out on mine.

That says it all. Why buy used? The prices of used trucks is insane. 20k buys you an 8-10yr old truck with 100k miles in my area. No thanks!

My 13 5.3 ext cab averaged 15 mpg...sucked.

My 14 5.3 crew averages 19 in the same conditions.

4 mpg x 22 gal tank is 80 more miles each fill up. You're saving like ten bucks a tank. Over a year filling up once a week like i do, you save approx 5 to 600 bucks...

My cost of ownership might have gone up but it costs less to run and it's so much of a nicer vehicle.
