Brake shoe question

My 2008 Sierra 1/2 ton is about due for rear brakes, looking on line there are two types of brake shoes for rear drum on this year truck, one using hold down pins and the other that does not. Is there a way to tell which type I have? Vin search maybe?

+1 ^^^^ Don't know how many miles you have on your truck. But most owners don't adjust the rear brakes shoes. So the rear brakes last a lot longer than you would think is normal. I have pulled rear drums on trucks with 100k miles and the shoe were not even half worn. So I would pull the rear drums and see what is going on. And while you are in there blow out all the brake dust. My routine is every time I change my oil I rotate my tires. And when I have the rear tires off I pull the drums blow the dust out and adjust the shoes. Also if needed I apply a little grease on the wear pads.

Now I don't know how much you know about doing brakes. If you are familiar with doing brake shoe then crawl under the truck and see if you can see the head of the pin where they go thru the backing plate. If You do then you have the pin type.

when I checked the shoes at 79k there was about 1/16 of an inch left, I'm now at almost 90k, what would that equate to how much is left before replacement? I don't plan to do the brakes myself, I got a bid of $250 just for the ac delco shoes and found them online for at least half that, thought I'd save some money and get the parts myself rather than pay full msrp.
