2011 GMC 1500 - tailgate lock & spare tire lock info?

With the recent thefts of tailgates in Southern Ontario, thinking i'd like to get a tailgate lock

 

Do the GM locks key use the ignition key?

Yes, at least on my '13. Better yet, install a Pop and Lock power lock for your tailgate. No key needed thereafter.

Thanks. Id prefer a manual one, , the less wiring the better.

I seen some posts in different forums put a hose clamp around bottom hinge so tailgate can't be lifted out easily.

Installed the OEM tailgate lock on my 2010 - it uses the ignition key. So does the optional spare tire lock.
