Adding LED in the corner steps to help when backing up?

So while searching for "LED Reverse" lights and other LED solutions for the truck, I found a pic of someone that installed some LEDS in the corner bumper steps, which looks good, but haven't found any write up or model of the lights used.. Everything I find is how to add a LED strip around the corner of the step to light the step up at night..

Im looking for some sort of flood LED's I can mount in the steps or else where to help in backing up.

Any suggestions, links write ups?

Use the cargo light on with reverse mod. Then wire them up to the bed light accessory plug under the bed (drivers side towards the rear) then you could mount any 12v led setup you want.

Search the forum for these threads

that was me(: or someone who copied me cause to my knowledge I was the first. Its very helpful if your night sight sucks like mine (makes a tinted windshield that much better of an idea right? lol) but I used some motorcycle underglow pods from xkglow.com. Never did a write up as it was too simple of an install. I just made a very very small hole in the back corner of the step and ran the wires through, pod is 3M taped to the top of the step. Right behind the bumper you'll find some wire looms, one contains only 2 wires, red and black in color. Those are the wires for your bed lights, I tapped into those 2 wires and bam, your done(:

now the lights will come on whenever the bed lights or cargo lights are on

Are the lights super bright? I want to do the mod for functional purposes, but aesthetics as well, so if im going to drill into my new truck, I want to make sure it is bright enough to help when backing up, I was really tempted in installing a light bar up under the truck that floods everything behind the rear wheels.

Are you using these now? are they bright? If so do you have any pics of how you are using them on yours?

if you are doing this mod purely for added light when backing up, then this won't work. Best way to add light in reverse is to use the VLED LPF (very bright, I have it and love it, but I won't lie, I'm about to exchange mine cause its one of the first 150 they produced in this new style so mine has an issue with letting moisture in so it burned out 3 of the 6 LEDs. Though its still very bright even with half the lights out)

or add some pods underneath the bumper. If you are putting lights in the bumper steps, then its for aesthetics and some extra light when trying to find the step in the bumper at night. That and it looks really cool at night IMO. These lights will not really help as far as extra light when in reverse

Are you talking about these Anzo LED step lights for rear bumper?

Anzo is what you are looking for.

That is what I had seen also, but was sure they wouldn't help in backing up, then I saw the other mod where actual lights were mounted up inside the step and those looked like they would help if installed correctly. Where we live the street light in front of our house doesn't stay on all night like the rest of the street, so there are times we get home and its pitch black and being as my wife just got her a new 2015 Camaro in black, I don't want to hit it, so I need something that will really light up behind the truck when in reverse. If I can wire it up to existing factory switch or circuit so that whatever I install only turns on in reverse OR via the bed light switch inside, I would be happy. In my last truck, I had run a set of off road flood lights, mounted them up on the leaf shackles so that they would be up out of the way and barely seen. And they worked out fine, but they were cheapy set from harbor freight, they served the purpose, but this time I want something that will really last and be extremely bright

You should try the cargo lights on with reverse mod as well. Sounds like you could use all the extra light you can get, and it might help some. Worth a try for .50 mod.

I was thinking about doing the oznium bolt lights as well. I have the 11mm blue one on my boat and it is a solid piece!

    • Thanks for response. Leak was right under drivers seat or thereabout.   Had checked by other mechanics and have read other information.   The solution can be a tad complicated and replacing multiple parts And with some.  The issue was still the same.   The brakes do work.   Just that the pedal is softer and goes further down.  But the brakes do work.
    • Breaking News!    I'm going to tell you that I'm going to tell you.  Then I'm going to tell you what I'm going to tell you.  Then I'm going to tell you.  Then I'm going to tell you what I told  you.  Then I'm going to tell you what I'm about to tell you on the other side of the break.  Then we're going to break. Then I'm not going to tell you what I told you I was going to tell you.  But I'll tell you something else that is Breaking News just coming to the desk that everyone reported on yesterday.  Then I'll tease a human interest telling I'll get to on the other side of a larger break. Then I'll tell you one item in 20 seconds and go back to an even longer break. Longest break of the night.  Then I'll tell you a fluff piece that takes 10 seconds and sign off into a three minute break while you wait for the next 30 minutes of rinse and repeat on the local news.    In al you'll get about 12 minutes of something, 5 minutes of which is worth hearing in a 30 minute show and 18 minutes of advertising at a sound level twice as loud as the news.    Of course you can switch to cable news and hear 12 different people tell the same four stories in much the same format as the Network News for 20 hours of which the majority will be advertising.  And four hours of late night Specials about things you wonder why you stayed up to listen to. Half of which will be repeats.....   OR you can go for a drive
    • Did you ever figure this out? My 2022 Trail Boss, and now my 2026 LT did this from time to time.  I believe it was more connected to Android Auto and my phone being the cause. Maybe try going for a drive, sans cell phone.... and see if it happens?
    • I have a 2026 Silverado LT, the non bose as well.  Upgrading the door speakers is pretty straightforward. You could honestly go to walmart, or Auto Zone/ O Reilly and get a set of 6x9s for the front, and 6.5s for the rear. You do also have to get some adapters for each, but they are like $10 a pair on Amazon. Then some plug and play harnesses that are about $10 a pair on Amazon as well.  And I would also suggest a 10 pack of the Amazon Basics sound deadening. Slap that all around the speakers and on the open metal of the inside of the door. And your golden.   I am currently doing this with my Silverado. Although I am having a bit of trouble because I am snooby I guess and bought some Alpine S2 S69c's which are 2 way components and I am having to wire from the door up to the dash....  Having never installed speakers before, its taking me just a bit to get everything correct. But if you dont buy expensive component speakers, and just some $40-$50 door speakers. You will DRASTICALLY improve the sound over these stock paper cone junk speakers. I thought my Silverado had an issue with the radio/ sound for a while.  Come to find out.  The stock speakers are just THAT SH*TTY   I cannot wait to have some decent sound in the truck   What did you end up doing?
    • Its all automatic based on yaw sensor data.  If enough incline is detected, it engages.   My recommendation though would be to disengage it before driving off and not let it auto disengage by touching the gas pedal.  The HD trucks use the same setup as prior years, the drum in hat park brake.  But now with an electric actuator.  If you drive off repeatedly over time, it can torque the park brake shoes and can also prematurely wear them out.           Electric console shift will set the park brake on flat ground too.  Pretty sure they've got it programmed to activate every time.
