Wow, I did mine for about $150... $75 for the battery, $75 for the custom battery cables made to order...the battery hold down cost $3.

I considered going this rout when my battery died. Instead I just replaced mine with a beast of a battery them mounted a 50. Cal ammo box to my second tray. It makes a great place to carry an extra gun or if I take mine off and need to lock it in the truck. Feels safer under the hood

I found this posting to be very informative:

http://www.silveradosierra.com/how-to-articles/how-to-hook-up-dual-batteries-factory-style-t284010.html

It describes OEM style installation and lists parts, tools & sources required to perform it. Highly recomended reading for anyone considering installation of an Auxillary Battery and wanting to keep their truck in factory style.

I had the TP2 Auxilliary Battery option on my old Silverado and found it to be very convenient. Sorry to see they don't offer it on current 1500 series, especially since the battery tray is already there.

Not sure if this will help anyone, but In my old 08 Sierra I installed a second battery with a Cole Hersee isolator. I also was able to get relatively cheap 1/0 cable and terminals from the local Airgas welding supply store. They are made for welding, but are much better and cheaper then most automotive cables (also had to buy a special terminal crimper.) I mounted my inverter under my driver side rear seat. There's a spot near it under the carpet where you can easily drill a hole and use a grommet to protect the cables. I also ran a waterproof heavy duty cord in to the bed of the truck. Worked really slick. Was able to run a TV, stereo and lights for about 4 Hrs without having to start the truck back up. With the truck running I could and did actually run a sawzall! In all I probably spent $800 for everything including the optima yellow top battery. I may put it in the new truck but haven't gotten around to it yet. Hope this helps.

Hi. I'm new to the site and a little late to this party but I'm installing a second battery in my 2018 Silverado . I'm using the OE isolator and need to hook it up using a 12v source and also a 12v switched source. There seems to be alot of information on gmt900 but not the newer style trucks.

Does anyone have information on tapping the under hood fuse box to get the power?  It's quite different than the previous gen.

Thanks

It's not cheap but this one listed earlier in the thread is still an option.

I ended up using one of the free spots on the battery distribution block and a Wirthco Battery Isolator for my dual battery setup. (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0058SGDFK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08__o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)  Be careful with the distribution block, make sure you have it disconnected from the battery. I forgot this step and fried the fuse to the starter and ended up having to replace the whole block.

    • If it has a stick I can have fun with it. When my wife first got her Acura years ago I used to tease her about it. I was only interested in muscle cars. They’re gone now. So once a month I drive the Acura. Every once in a while I’ll take it to Redline. But just normal driving on some twisty back roads usually does the trick.
    • I went through again with a test light and everything checked out.    I suppose it could be the MAF itself but I've tried 3 different sensors, 2 of which were in running vehicles previously (the one in this truck, and the one in the donor truck), as well as a new one I picked up from NAPA. I would just be surprised if all 3 were bad.   EDIT/UPDATE: I swapped in the MAP sensor that was originally with the 2010 PCM, that made the code for map sensor voltage high Go away, and the map sensor seems to read normal with key on engine off (14psi or so), but it still doesn't run and does the same thing as before.
    • In addition to a cell or wifi connection, the infotainment needs to be enabled to download software updates. That's a toggle within the system settings.   But...if the truck was prevented from receiving updates in a past life, missing a bunch of updates may mean it won't go back and download all of those because they're not available or the system is too far out of date.   If a formal recall depends on a software update, the recall for that truck remains in an open status until it's applied. The dealer would need to apply the software update in that instance.   Most updates downloaded and applied via the infotainment aren't recalls/safety recalls, they're enhancements and usability fixes which aren't critical.
    • Recently I've been getting a message, "New Brake Pads Detected. Reset Brake Pad Life?", But I haven't had the pads replaced and the truck only has 28,000 miles. The Brake Pad Life shows Front 64% and Rear 79%. I select NO to resetting the brake pad life and the message goes away but comes back at the nest restart.   I stopped by the dealer and was told that it sounds like a software glitch that would require reprogramming. Even though I have the extended warranty, they tell me that reprogramming is not covered unless a module was actually bad and needed to be replaced. Simply reprogramming is not covered. So, they want $200.00 just to diagnose the problem. If it turns out no bad module, another charge on top of that to do the reprogramming. If the cause was an actual bad module, everything would be covered under the warranty.   Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Should this issue be covered under the warranty?   Thanks
    • NHT is diesel only, correct.     The GVWRs for NHT on 3/4 ton bring them to the same numbers as many of the 2WD 1 tons.  A crew 4x4 standard 3/4 with NHT is 11,750lbs, a 1 ton same cab/box/4x4 is 12,100lbs.     Hubs and hub bearings are the same for 11.5" and 12" axles.  Housing, diff carrier and ring/pinion are larger for the 12".   All gas use the 11.5" axle, 3/4, 1 ton and 1 ton DRW.
