Has anyone changed their gears to run 35" without a problem. I have a 5.3L 4x4 with 3.42 ratio

In my 02 I ran 4.88's with both 35's and 37's. That 4 speed tranny with 4.88s and 35's would be closest to the 6 speed with 4.56s but the 6 speed would have better take off due to the deeper gears.

I can tell you that truck used to launch like a bat outta hell on 35's. On 37's not so much lol. If you plan on sticking to 35's then go with 4.56s.

I agree 4.56 would be the tallest gear I would use it is well worth it your not going to get good mph any way so help your engine and transmission out as much as you can and if your going to pull any thing go lower like a 4.88 or what ever is close to it

I have 35s on my truck with 3.42s and no problem at all. I do have a tune so I think thats the biggest solution with these new trucks.

What rdnckhntr94 said^^^. I ran 4.56 in my 14 with the 35's and the truck was perfect, even on the highway at 75. Pulled better than stock, no hunting for gears on hills, would smoke the 35's if you wanted too and better fuel mileage than I got tuned with the 3.42s. 4.10's would probably be sufficient if you do a lot of highway and may would have netted better mileage but the engine load was so low with the 4.56 gears i really don't see how you would gain much. Only word of advice is if you do the swap just find a good shop because it will save you money in the long run.

it may seam that it is ok but you would love it if you put some 4.10s or better in there

I am from mainly dealing with old school way of swapping gears so I would agree there but with the tune I have too much power for my own good as is and really think the electronics are whats running these vehicles mostly nowadays. I have seen cars where just a sensor acting up makes the car seem like its about to blow a tranny or need a new motor but I literally can take off from a red light to 60 leaving everyone behind with not even hitting the gas 50% of the way. It doesn't even feel like I'm launching too and it can smoke the 35s all day long. I actually did that to even out the tread on my old set before I sold them.

if your happy with it great all I'm saying is no matter what you think of how good it is it's not 4.10s would make that truck a million times better and as far as thinking you racing people and blowing them away well you will learn one day that your just silly they don't care how fast you take off or how far ahead you are

I think you misread the red light part lol Im saying under what I feel is normal acceleration the truck is actually taking off faster than what it feels. Like when I had my Xterra and went to 33s it was a real drag on the power and noticeable at red lights how bogged down I was in power when I accelerated. Where as since the tune it is like when I brought the truck home from the dealership. I don't race unless I am late somewhere then its just me racing time lol
