Android auto/Apple carplay....

Does anybody know if there will be support for the 14/15's? I know the 2016 is supporting carplay.

There was a thread on this before, but GM will never update the old radios to support this.

 

To them it's a selling feature and in there minds we will all trade our trucks to get it.

Its something that is very upsetting to me as a buyer. I will be paying for this truck for five years, and it only supports phones that current When it comes time to renew my Cell phone contract and get a new phone I WILL DO IT. and the fact that my truck wont always communicate with newer phones or even older phones is disappointing.

MVI offers the upgrade to the factory 2016 IOB radio with CarPlay, but it's spendy. Probably less than trading for a '16, though.

I wouldn't do it until next March, though, so you get Android Auto as well. If GM even releases it as they have stated. They also promised text-to-voice updates for 2014 owners that never happened, and they promised more 3rd party apps for MyLink, and that never happened either.

They also lied on the window sticker about my '15 having HD radio. Only later did I find out they disabled that feature rather than fix the problem.

Are you talking about CarPlay specifically when you say newer phones won't work with car? The communication between your phone and stereo Bluetooth and Bluetooth has always been backwards compatible. New phones will continue to work with the same functionality you have now. Now, if there are new Bluetooth features, you won't be able to take advantage of them, but you current functionality will continue to operate as normal.

With new phones comes unforeseen issues such as the communication problem I was having with my Droid Turbo and my MyLink. They either come out with updates to fix the issues or say sorry for your luck.

Yep. With the latest crApple update 9.1 I'm having weird things happen when trying to just play music from my iphone. It will start playing some random song, even if I select another one. Then it just sits there doing nothing. Really pisses me off.

 

I didn't take my own advise and NEVER update you iOS if things are working.
