New wheels on the way and I have a TPMS question

I want to steal the TPMS sensors off my OE wheels. What I've seen online looks like a rubber pull through type valve stem, and then a TPMS sensor that gettings screwed onto that with a little torx screw.

Does anyone know if I can buy the rubber valve stems separately since I obviously wouldn't be able to reuse them?

I'd prefer OE valve stems if anyone can point me to the OE part #.

Thank you

TPMS rebuild kit is basically the new stems. I know you can buy them online or at Discount Tire, but those wouldn't be OE.

discount tire will have everything you need. when i got my wheels/tires they took the tpms off my stock wheels and put everything on the new wheels with no issues

Thank you, rebuild kit was the word I was looking for. I guess I don't need OE for this really.

Thank you guys for the help.

any descent tire shop will have these on hand, its a very common valve stem. OE or otherwise they're pretty much the same.

Not to hijack, but then what? Do they have to get programmed or something or are they auto sense? Sounds like you go to shop they toss some in valve stems and out the door? Would you wear the new sneakers to shop for this with OE wheels and tires in tow. Seems troublesome to then have OE wheels missing TPMS now. What if you don't do anything and get the new wheels and tires already mounted balanced ect.. and just fly with it. A dash light TPMS right? Mr. Wheel Deal has the best package deals I have been able to find and they want like $45 each tire for TPMS installed. Plus $ if need programmed? I don't care I check air manually once a week and would notice a low tire pretty quick. I am beyond a light to tell me to do so. If and when I sold it off I would toss OE wheels and tires back on and good to go right? Sell aftermarket wheels/tires with truck or separate to another party. We are pushing the boundaries with over sized wheels and tires and willing to deal with the odd rub when full lock in reverse or whatever are they worth the extra $160 or so on top of the $2500 for an average wheel tire package.

When I got my new wheels/tires I just went to discount and had them take the tpms sensors off of my stock wheels to use on the new ones. I drove around for about a week with no sensors before putting on the lift and the new wheels

No auto sense. You can buy a Bosch trigger tool and reset them yourself or most dealers will do it for free. I paid $70 dollars for the Bosch two years ago. The TPMS should be reset when tires are rotated or when you change wheels. I find it useful to monitor the tire pressure display. I detected a nail and a screw in the last two years before any tire damage. I bought a second set of TPMS for my winter tire and wheels and have no regrets. 5 years ago I was in the middle of a 600 mile trip when my vehicle popped the warning light. 100 miles from the nearest town I ended up changing a tire in a blizzard. My old truck didn't display pressure, only a warning light and by then I had zero option as pressure was too low to continue. But as you said if you check pressure often, do a visual and don't stray far from town might not be worth the cost.

I learned the hard way about TPMS sensors. In a higher end billet wheel that has center barrel valve stem locations the factory TPMS sensors will not pick up with either of the Kent Moore tools. I even pulled a wheel apart to bench test the TPMS sensors and they are in fact working perfectly. Once installed in the center on the wheel you can't program them. Makes for a pretty crappy situation when you have 4-5K in wheels and you have to deal with the stupid warning light every time you turn the key.

I bought the AC Delco valve stems in RockAuto (http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php?carcode=3307665&parttype=12993) for 5.25 each; tire shop installed them, unbolted the sensors from stock wheel valve stems and bolted them into the new wheels' valve stems. All I did for peace of mind after I picked up my truck from the shop was to set the display to the Tire Pressure monitor, push the reset stem for X seconds until I got the "relearning, please wait" message and it was done.
