Hey everyone i don't know if this been asked but I have a 2014 silverado LT with 5.3L and I had a magnaflow muffler and tip put on with the resonator taken off, now it does still have the flapper valve behind muffler my question is why is it so quite still? Will removing flapper valve make it louder? It's sounds ok on cold start but once warm and idle and take off doesn't really make much sound. Any suggestions are welcomed thank you everyone

I'd clamp it open. Turn the square mechanism on the side of the pipe counterclockwise, and get a 1/4x20 2 inch long bolt, a 1/4x20 nut and two 1/4x1" flat washers and put them in the bottom of the valve.

See if that changes the sound level.

Yeah so I got it to stay open and did a lite driving around town and it kicked in v4 mode drone or helicopter noise wasn't to bad but didn't get it on highway im going out of town this weekend so we will see...if it's to bad I will take bolt out. But sounds amazing with it open

Yeah I think I'm going to wait and do the muffler (same 14" MF) around Xmas and do a tune that way I can take off the AFM for no chopper/drone.

I'm going to do the opposite. Resonator and flapper will remain, but removing the muffler. Something tells me this will be the best sound.

I wouldn't waste the money on replacing it. It will sound stock if you leave both of those in.

You might as well leave the stock muffler in and don't waste your money. It will sound stock if you leave both of those in.

You're telling me that huge muffler isn't doing anything more than that loose fitting flapper? Seems like GM could be saving a lot of money by nixing the mufflers if they don't do anything.

I installed the 14" and left the flapper in. I could hardly hear the exhaust. Opened the flapper and it sounded like a truck. So if you left them both in, I would imagine it would be extremely quiet.

I'm going to try it. I'm just trying to keep the V4 chopper sound to a minimum, but might be a losing battle. I'll keep the stock muffler and if it doesn't sound good I'll put it back to stock until I come up with a better plan. My exhaust guy might have some good ideas too. I might even do an electric exhaust bypass valve. I actually design and manufacture those, but have never used one myself.
