Check out my pics in the HID thread. My buddy and I ended up using 1/8th inch ABS plastic to extend the caps.

Thanks a ton man. I like your solution. I was really overthinking this.

hey coop, hate to hijack the thread, but can you post some more pics regarding your puddle lights? mine came in today so im going to be wiring them up.. I saw where you tied into the dome circuit, but that wire on my truck already has a factory tap splice in it and I don't see that on yours? also did you run the wire through the parking brake grommet?

No problemo.

As far as the dome circuit wire having a factory tap already, my guess is that it must be for some option that your truck has and mine doesnt. It should still be fine to use as these LEDs draw almost nothing. It is a fused circuit so if there is too much load, it will just pop a fuse so i say roll with that wire.

And i ran my wires into the cab on each side, then joined them together behind the driver kick panel, where from there i ran my wiring in a single strand up to the grey dome trigger, and grounded it with a small self tapping screw also behind the kick panel.

I ran the driver side wiring thru what looks to be the emergency brake cable grommet. (See pic 1)

I ran the passenger side thru a knock-out located in roughly the same location as the driver side (pic 2). Its plastic, and i just drilled a small hole to run thru and put a dab of silicone around it from inside

I felt id rather bring the passenger side inside on its own as opposed to running under the truck due to the trans and driveshaft headache it would require avoiding. Also, its very easy to run from passenger side over to drivers under the carpet, once u have the passenger door sill and kick panel removed.

Thanks man, I'll let you know how mine turns out. I'm doing 4 in the bed, 4 for the puddles, and 4 in the cab. I'll tap into the reverse lights for the beds though

I ordered another set that should be here tmrw, to install in the interior footwells and plan to tap into the same wire.

Cool! Yea i tapped into the reverse lights, as well, to run my under rail lighting.

Make sure and post some pics!

Alright so I got the puddle lights installed last night.. I'm tedious with my wiring so it actually took quite a while to run all my wires. These lights are far more blue than I imagined... From the pics they look alright, but in person... They scream autozone. Maybe I got a different light than you?!

Anyways I continued tonight to put them in the cab, they are the same color, but actually look a lot better being an interior rather than exterior light.

Looks great from the pics! Mine have a hint of blue, but i wouldnt say mine "scream autozone".

Im actually doing my install tonite on my footwells (fronts only).

Did u have any issues with the rear dealing with the motorized seats?

I don't have electric seats.. but I didn't have issues routing them under there.

Well i just got my other set in today, and installed in my front footwells. They look great. Cant beat these lights for under $6 shipped. I will say, now that the interior ones are installed, i definitely can see a difference in color vs the puddle lights. The puddle lights DO appear to have a slight blue hUe in comparison. I think it may be because the carpet in and husky mats are black and the blue tint doesnt show up in the reflection on black. And also, it could be because the puddle lights are much higher off the ground that it shines on vs the distance the interior lights travel, or could be a combination of both. because looking at the lights themselves, while blinding, do appear to me to look the same. Idk. Just a theory. Either way im pretty happy

Where are these ^^^ bulbs being had for $6? I've missed something here in this thread. The install looks fantastic for the price!

Being that there are an ungodly amount of pages haha, can you post pics here? I'm thoroughly pleased with the performance of my stock halogen lights on my '14 LT. But I'm in love with the Winjet headlights and wonder if the FX-R swap on those would be as minor as these LT projector replicas

Eagle Eye knockoffs of the LTZ headlight have been discontinued.

Just a FYI.

    • That makes sense, and I think you are describing the real product problem. Capturing data is the easy part. If the owner or technician has to manually dig through five minutes of millisecond-level logs, the product has already failed. The device would be at the ECM harness, not at the OBD port, so I agree that data retrieval and event marking need to be thought through carefully. The way I am thinking about the architecture is: The recorder itself should not depend on a phone, app, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or cloud connection to capture the event. It should always keep a local rolling buffer and lock the event locally. A button, phone app, or small cabin device would only act as an event marker. If the driver feels a stumble and presses the button 10–30 seconds later, the pre-buffer has to already contain the useful data. For data retrieval, the practical options would be a sealed service USB lead, Wi-Fi download, or a phone/cabin companion device. I would not expect the owner to remove the ECM-side module or work with raw files directly. The cloud or AI side would be for interpretation, not for capturing the event. The truck may have no connection when the issue happens, so the evidence has to be saved locally first. After that, cloud processing could help decode the data, compare it against baselines, and generate a readable report. For the first version, I would keep the automatic triggers conservative and objective: driver event marker bus-off error passive voltage drop / brownout device reset FIFO or queue overflow a normally periodic message disappearing side-to-side communication mismatch, if the topology supports that For “learning normal,” I agree with your point, but I would not want to overclaim it as automatic root-cause diagnosis at first. A realistic first step would be learned baseline comparison for that specific vehicle and operating condition. For example, a value would only be compared against similar conditions: RPM range load / MAP throttle position gear / vehicle speed coolant and oil temperature battery voltage AFM/DFM state, if decoded and validated Then the report could flag things like: this periodic message disappeared compared with its normal timing this value deviated from this vehicle’s normal range under similar conditions the same abnormal pattern repeated after the same type of event the anomaly occurred together with voltage, oil-pressure, misfire, or communication changes But I would still call that “abnormal pattern detected,” not “replace this part,” unless there is enough validated repair data behind it. So the intended product would not be “here is a huge log.” It would need to be an event package: what triggered the capture how much pre/post data was preserved what changed before and after the event whether the device itself reset, overflowed, or saw a bus error selected graphs around the event raw data only as supporting evidence From your perspective, what would make this kind of report useful instead of just another datalog? For example: What are the top 5 parameters or events you would want highlighted first? Would you trust a learned baseline for that specific vehicle, or would you prefer fixed thresholds? How much false-positive flagging would be acceptable before you stopped looking at the reports? What would a one-page report need to show for an independent shop to take it seriously? For misfire, AFM/DFM, oil pressure, or U-code complaints, what would you want the tool to flag automatically?
