Why are there so few Max Trailering 6.2L trucks?

I've found a lot of 5.3L Max Trailering trucks but I haven't been able to drive a 6.2L yet. Is there a known reason for the lack of 6.2 trucks?

If your talking about 2015, it's because the 6.2 was late availability and limited volume.

The NHT was even later availability. It was first promised for mid Jan, but it was March before any got built.

Sounds like 6.2's (and 6.2/NHT) will be a least as hard to get this year, Maybe harder.

Get your order in.

Thought the same thing. There were only 3 in and around Colorado last week.

Try Laura GM near St. Louis, they seemed to have a few and had tremendous sale prices.

I have one. Only option I didn't like was the tow mirrors. Converted over to regular mirrors and I'm very happy with it. It has lots of power!

I finally got tired of waiting on my NHT order and bought a 2500. A decision I have never regretted for one second. Btw, to the OP, I placed my NHT order last September and got tired of waiting at the end of December. Switched orders to the 2500 and had it late Feb. The NHT order wasn't built till late March. GM doesn't like to sell 6.2's or NHT trucks is all that I can figure out.

Feels like the slow play 6.2L max tow production is intentional as all fleets scramble to meet CAFE MPG thresholds and whatnot.

I'm afraid the V8 is endangered and the choice will be either 1/2 tons with Eekoboosted V6's or HD diesels.

Yeah, I'm old skool.

I searched for 2 months to find the one I wanted and they had to bring it in from 500 miles away. I will never regret it though.

Honestly, there really isn't a need. A tuned 5.3 can walk a stock 6.2.

The day of large displacement engines is most likely coming to an end sad to say. I bet in 5 years time, there will not even be such a thing as a mass produced V8. Emissions restrictions and MPG rules are only getting tighter and tighter. Heck, I bet one day soon you will not even be allowed to own a pickup truck unless you can prove you genuinely need it for work related reasons.

Hold on folks, the BS has not yet begun.

True; but what happens if the 6.2 is tuned?

Although, not everyone wants to tune their motors because some of us are okay with the power from the factory tune.

Then it is a beast lol.

But seriously, one has to weigh the facts carefully. I considered a 6.2, but I did not see any benefit.

For one, the 5.3 can make incredible power in stock form. Hell, I bet a stock 5.3 could take 600+HP on a daily basis for years. These engines are legendary in being able to cope with extra power on stock hardware.

So, in knowing that, why get the 6.2 that can only run on premium? Where I live, premium is insanely expensive, we are talking $1.50 per liter, or roughly $6.00 per gallon. When a 5.3 can make gobs of power, on 87 octane fuel, with few bolt on mods, why bother with a 6.2?

For me, I like a 5.3 with some goodies added on, and the ability to run 87, which can be found anywhere and everywhere. Sometimes I take trips far up north where premium fuel is never even stocked, it's 87 or nothing.

Let's face it, the 6.2 does do roughly 2 - 3 MPG worse than a 5.3 does. Sure, it sounds like nothing, but on a vehicle that averages say 20 MPG, your talking about a 10+% loss of fuel economy, for power you likely do not need, or even use. The world is getting to a point where a few MPG, is actually huge.

My 15 6.2 max tow has almost the same mileage as my 14 Silverado with the 5.3. And trust me the 6.2 is way more powerful. In stock form it blows away my old 5.3 which was tuned. Now my 6.2 is tuned which is nice too. If you have the choice I'd highly recommend the 6.2..

Was the 14 also a max tow?

( I'm considering a 16 5.3 max tow in place of the 15 6.2/8spd non max tow)

My 14 was 5.3 with 3.42 gears. Not a max tow. The 6.2 is day and night. If you have choice opt for the big motor..
