Police scanner

My old Police scanner died a while ago. I've been using an app on my iPad to listen to our local Police dispatch but they are moving to a centralized dispatch (combining with another City and the County) and the apps no longer work.

Anybody have a recommendation on a decent scanner? I'm not sure what brands/models are good.

Thanks in advance.

Another thing to look into is if your local departments are changing to digital and/or encrypted before you spend the money. My dad had that problem here. He didn't want to spend the money on newer digital scanners so he lost the ability to listen to quite a few things around here.

Uniden Home Patrol 2 or Uniden BCD346 HP. Check out sites like scanner master but Amazon sells them both. These are both APCO Phase 2 digital (TrunkTracker V) and are easy to use and update. They will not allow you to listen into encrypted channels.

I have Uniden Bearcat BCD536HP in my garage and house to keep me aware of what's going on when I am not working. It's a pricey model but one of the best and you should not have to program. No need to program specific frequencies or try to find which frequencies you may need because it picks them up automatically for your area.
