Ticking sound = Lifter Replacement

My 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 6.2L has always had a ticking sound coming from the engine compartment. I was always told that it was normal. I cranked the vehicle on Thanksgiving morning and that slight ticking sound became very loud. Both the engine light and traction control lights came on and the vehicle started running rough. Dropped it off at the dealer Friday morning. They just called and said the camshaft lifters need to be replaced. I only have 29,500 miles on the truck. That seems like a pretty significant repair for a vehicle having less that 30,000 miles. At least it's still under warranty. Hopefully I'll get the vehicle back today or tomorrow. Anybody else experience that issue?

I had lifters replaced on my 2010 Camaro with less than 6k on it. There was a TSB for that issue though. That's the closest I can get to your experience.

Did the 2nd time solve the problem? Or is this a potential ongoing issue?

Just got off the phone with the service department. I was told the bad lifter damaged the camshaft as well. The camshaft and lifters will all be replaced. I probably won't get the truck back until the end of the week :nonod:

AFM is on. Never had any issues with AFM. But I've always wondered if AFM would eventually cause problems...especially if the same cylinders are always deactivated in V4 mode.

Well you can quit wondering. Or read the 07-13 section threads on AFM issues. I am like you thinking that they have fixed the AFM lifter issue. Maybe it is just a one off failure? I do wish I had bought a pre-14 6.2. Recommend the range. They should extend your warranty on the cam and lifters.

My 09 5.3 makes a lot of lifter noise on startup. And it is not a DI sound like they were probably telling you.

Got the truck back today. The #4 cylinder intake lift had seized up and damaged the camshaft. The camshaft, all lifters both active and standard, and lifter manifold were replaced. They had to remove the engine and cylinder heads to complete the repair. The truck is running great now....sounds quieter than ever.

My 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 6.2 had push rod bent and replaced at 42,000 miles. Dealer blamed it on fuel. Always has had ticking noise. But this was different.
