Back when my boys were in elementary school I was sitting in line to drop them off and one of the moms was not paying attention. Luckily I had my hitch in but not so lucky for her. It completely caved in her bumper of her Durango. She got out and said her husband was going to kill her because she had done the same thing a month prior. Only put a small scratch on my ball.

Was rear-ended once while driving an old Jeep Wagoneer (the big one). Guess the receiver stuck out more than the bumper as the car that rear-ended me had a nice square notch taken out of their front bumper.

 

Was rear-ended last year while driving an old Blazer. Scraped some rust off the hitch ball I had in. Nice round dent in the car.

 

Both times I was stopped and it was a low speed hit, so no biggie.

 

I just leave my hitch in now. Summer it's the big WD hitch, otherwise just a simple ball hitch.

Here is the "SuperBumper" installed. Some owners have described surviving rear end collisions of up to 30 mph without rear end damage. That sounds a bit incredible to me, but even if they are exaggerating, this little beasty exceeds factory bumper protection by a healthy margin.
