Superbumper!

I was researching trail hitch devices to afford an extra level of protection to my brand new 2015 GMC Sierra SLT. Was pondering a BeaverStep, and other comparable devices, when I came upon this:

The energy absorption technology is intriguing.

Which begs two questions:

1. Who owns one of these and what do you think about it?

2. Are 2015 Sierra rear bumpers only good for a 2.5mph impact?

Interesting. Never had a problem with my hitches and heads stopping idiots that wanted to use me instead of their brakes.

Yeah, a hitch will buy you a little more protection, but this device should apsorb and spread/deter an impact much better than a ball hitch.

Besides, if our rear bumpers are only good to 2.5 mph, that would be a good reason to pop for one of these. The basic black version without a hitching ball is $139.00.

...and if it gives some rear ending idiot a splendid bash in the jaw, er grille, it would be money well spent.

Anybody have one?

Looks like a V shaped trailer tongue might bind against the device when turned sharply on uneven grades.

Perhaps, but I am interested in the version without a trailer ball.

I'm interested in it's crash protection properties. You should watch the video on their website. Simple, yet effective crash protection. Much better than the factory rear bumper.

i got hit real hard with my 04 with nothing in the reciver from behind by a kia. the car was destroyed all that happened to me was my trailer plug got bent in and some scratches on the chrome bumper. idk how tough these new ones are but i used to ride around with my hitch in there for this reason but i had enough of hitting my shin on that dam thing hah

i see your point in having one though

A very high percentage of collisions involve rear endings. If this can guard against my rear bumper (or worse) getting crushed, then it's worth 139 bucks. IMHO.

The rear bumpers on our trucks can be damaged by the neighbor's cat. They are cheap sheetmetal. It doesn't take much impact to destroy them and it normally takes out the bedsides too...

The part you posted would help a little IF the impact is perfectly centered.

I don't worry myself though... In the last 500,000 miles, I have not had anyone rear end any of my vehicles.

I just ordered one. The "Sparebumper," which has the crash technology without the hitch ball.

It should, at a bare minimum, guard against idiots attempting to parallel park. Or, if I bump into anything.

I was rear ended in my '06 Chrysler 300C about 4 years ago. Do not want to repeat it.

When I had my 2013 Traverse I had my trailer hitch on it to go camping but ran up town to get some ICE.

Someone rolled up to close to me at the stop light and put the hitch right through there bumper and deployed there airbags even.

Of course it was a weight distribution hitch so it punched a big hole.

Just to report the hitch was unharmed even though I had to pull the pin to get them separated.

The girl squacked and the cop just replied back why did you get so close ha ha..

He did ask me why I had it on but I already had the ice in the back and told him I was literally going home to hook up the camper and go.

So this would work for a bump for sure ha ha.

Interesting. I've never once been asked why I had mine on in my 3 rear endings.

I think it was just because WDH It was so big. The Police around here have gone after people for running with them on. The provencial police do keep unsafe cars off the roads for sure. You will not see cars running around still on the road like I do in Detroit. I saw a Van in Detroit that had been T-Boned and they just put plastic over the side door and were still driving it. The frame was bent. Were I live if you have a headlight out your going to get pulled over. OF course they just tell you it's out usually.
