Chevy AFM.

I have a 2008 Chevy Silverado 1500. Has the 5.3 engine with the AFM. I've heard the issues and complaints with this. The truck will use a bit of oil between oil changes, I'm sure it's the same problem as everyone else . Doesn't leak, uses oil AFM switches from 8 cyl to 4 cyl. I've been advised to have the AFM disabled at the ECU. To stop the oil consumption. Anyone have this done.? It's supposedly an easy fix, less than $100 to do it. The truck has about 96000 miles.

Oil consumption is apparently a mechanical clearance issue in the 07 up AFM engines. Disabling it likely won't change oil consumption... as the lifters are still moving in their bores (where the oil is reported to be going). It's a crappy design.
