Will GM do any other motors for the current 1500?

Is it confirmed that gm is redesigning in 2018 with aluminum body? If so I will gladly wait another couple years before purchasing new. I also want to see what ram redesign will bring. If the next redesign gm has remotely resembles the 2016 I may be looking elsewhere

Right now the Colorado & Canyon diesel come at a $3,000-$4,000 premium over the V6 and it's a 4 cylinder. Then there is the difference in price for diesel fuel compared to gas. Also as someone noted earlier, most pickup truck owners just prefer a V8. I had a 6 banger in a Ford truck years ago & ended up following up with a V8. You just don't save anything in a full size truck with a 6 banger, you end up pushing the go pedal farther. I think I made a dent under my 6 cylinder pedal!

Other than being able to say "My engine is turbo charged". The Ford Ecoboost do not provide much of an efficiency advantage over their GM V-8 counterparts. Over on Edmunds, their long term F-150 test truck with the 2.7 Ecoboost gets less mileage while providing less power overall than the 5.3. I don't see the overall benefit.

From I have been reading it is going to happen in 2018 or 2019 at the latest . I'm guessing it won't be the 7 years it has been in the past . It only took 2 years for a refresh this time.

Although the diesel idea is nice if I want a diesel I go to a 2500. Also many Ford owners I personally know complain Complain complain about the 3.5 they say it keeps the turbos spooled almost non stop when they tow and even if the engine can handle the boost, turbos wear out and cost alot. The couple dodge guys I know all say the gas mileage is horrible they said of course it is faster but due to gearing. I keep my vehicles quite along time my old pickup was a 02 silverado. Never had any problem except the plagued plastic/composite intake gasket which want that hard to change. So all I think GM should do is change the stroke of the 5.3 and go back to the 5.7, if history will show them anything, shorter stroke although can rev faster and higher In the RPMS they can get aLot more from that change in stroke then the research, development and testing of a new diesel engine.

By now we would have read some rumors about a diesel 1500 from GM. The only way we see a GM diesel is if Ram and Titan post insane sales on diesel equipped 1500's. If that happens then we would see a 4.5L Dmax as GM has already built it. Only problem is they build years ago right before/during the economic down turn. Personally I think a diesel 1500 would make a hell of a great engine for lifted trucks, tuners and baja vehicles.
