Will GM do any other motors for the current 1500?

Do you guys think GM has any plans for a turbo 6 or a diesel option for the Future with this new 16+ body style, Or will gm just stand pat until next model change, and play the usual follow the leader? Which IMO would be terrible

Been seeing this new F150 diesel prototype that should make 455 lb tq out of their 3.0 diesel. This truck will be a reality for 2017. Also ford just made their 2.7 turbo standard engine in their 16 F150. November was the first month the F series out sold the GM twins. As the F series is starting to pick up major steam again. About 70k trucks sold per month last few months.

The Ram diesel will get a nice bump for their all new 1500 model coming out in 2017.

New Titan as ugly as it is will have some sales.

I keep hearing the tundra as ugly as it is will get a diesel option as well.

There is some healthy truck competition going on and will be even tougher next 2-3 years.

I really hope GM have something else in store. Power bump for the 5.3 would be welcome news , not sure about the 4.3. Jury still out on this motor as the mpg is not that great. Maybe slide the 3.6T in that slot? Less power and just more torque.

What do you guys think ? let's stick to subject and no homers please.

with all that said many people choose the GM for this reason, its proven, since they were just changed in 14, even if only modified, i doubt any change is coming

i'm kidding mostly but for me only a v8 will do. i would not mind a new motor or different displacements as the 5.3 is 17 years old. i know not the same as a 99 but same size. the general public is probably thinking it is the same motor.

Those that don't know the difference often also don't care that there is a difference.

From the few paragraphs of speculation I have read, the F150 will roll out the 3.0 Land Rover derived diesel option in Raptor only for 2017?

Am sure there is way more info, but the above is all I have read. So if that turns out to be the case, then we are looking at 2018 before it gets to the avg F150.

It is also suppose to come with the 10 spd auto, wonder when GM will get it since the 9/10 spds are a joint venture?

Have been seeing comments about unhappy F150 owners with the 2.7. Real world fuel economy is close to the 3.5 eco that has more power.

That said, have not researched them in depth.

I do agree that GM should have spent way more time advertising the 4.3/5.3 were all new for the K2xx. The avg non forum shopper may only see the hp bump

over the last generation.

GM's biggest issue currently will be to see if the new Silverado front end is a hit or miss via sales numbers going forward.

Honestly the only new engine option I would like to see is the 4.5L V-8 Duramax. I would definitely consider trading/selling my 2015 to purchase one. IMO the V-6 diesel in the Ram is too lethargic to consider regardless of fuel mileage. Can't see any reason why a V-6 diesel F-150 would be any different. The Titan's Cummins diesel has enough power but I don't like the looks of the truck.

They probably wont do a diesel yet.

Why steal sales from the already super expensive gas powered trucks...

I think they have the sales and margins good enough now, GM is making bank on these trucks.

Its like the late 90's all over again..

The newer Tundras aren't too bad, I guess it had to grow on me. You do have to pay a bit more though for a Toyota since they don't offer all the crazy rebates and discounts.

I'm fine with the V8, but it would be nice if at a minimum you could get the 6.2l in an LT as an option! Why not? I'm guessing so that they can say the sell xxx,xxx trucks with xx mpgs? Seems stupid to have to buy an HD, LTZ or Denali for it. Why wouldn't it be available in the WT at a minimum, thinks that might make a good work truck motor.

I've decided to wait a year to pay off another vehicle and I'm very interested to see what they do if anything for the '17s.

Why would they put the slowest motors in the truck designed for going fast? That would be dull to drive fast and way less fun. It is supposed to get a new more powerful version of the 3.5 ecoboost. If a diesel comes at all it will be in the box checker versions first and probably a few years down the road, only seen one test vehicle with it.

One spy shot speculating the engine doesn't make it coming in 2017 which are only about 6 months out or something. I don't see Ford doing a diesel for a few years at least as they already stated their ecoboost is within the perameters they desire compared to diesels...

    • I've installed cheap eBay new aftermarket digitizers before.  They work.  Did a bunch of Cadillac CUE (aka Cadillac's MyLink) for someone years ago.  They all worked fine after the repair.    That number 22740886, that is a component part # for GM.  You can use it to search, but its not something that's obtainable at the dealer level.     So pretty much any of these will work - 2015 Colorado Digitizer for sale | eBay

    • You can install tailpipes that direct the exhaust sideways vs the OEM one that goes straight back. There are several on the market, do you own research. HOWEVER, you need to make sure the Venturi vents are still intact, otherwise it will throw a engine code. There is a sensor somewhere that detects back pressure on the exhaust. And if it doesn't collect the correct metrics, it will throw the truck into limp mode.
    • "Teardown" is complete. Head surfaces are clean and ready, new intake is prepped and ready. Coolant drained and water pump is removed, radiator is removed, new hoses and pump are ready.   The replacement intake is also from a '95 (with I think 260k, the odometer said). Noticeably less pitting where it covers the rear coolant passages. I'm not sure if that's a tribute to more frequent use, more frequent coolant changes/upkeep, or if the intake was machined at some point. But it appears I found a good one.   My coolant hoses were original, and the lower hose still retained the factory spring inside. It's not really rusty, but it's got deposits all over it. Unsure if I should re-install it (will thoroughly clean it first). Someone said hose technology has gotten better since 1995 (has it?) and I don't need the spring. I think modern EPDM is what made those hoses last from 1995-2026, so it's a question of how much suction can the water pump really pull, and will it collapse the hose without a spring?   I'm stopped and waiting for parts, however.   When I first brought the truck home, the fan was intermittently hitting the radiator shroud. I could see someone had monkeyed with the shroud (put a bunch of cardboard as a spacer between the upper/lower shroud halves. Someone said the motor mounts have likely failed and the engine has sagged. I wasn't sure I believed that. The engine is really solid in its mounts: To remove the old intake I *just* nearly permanently welded to the heads with freshly cured RTV and gasket snot two weeks ago, I literally had to use the arms on my lift and a chain with a bolt attached to the intake to pull it loose. It almost picked the front of the truck off the ground before ....scuuuuuuuuuuup.... I could actually hear the gaskets tearing and it broke loose and the whole truck settled back down. Motor barely moved.   SO, those parts I'm waiting on... The lower radiator mounts/bushings had completely failed. The radiator needs to be insulated from the rad support, and the bushings help the rad stand at the correct height. The plastic "baffle" was also destroyed at some point. Someone had attached the shroud to it incorrectly, overlapping a joint that should have been underlapped, creating another suspect issue potentially causing things to hit the fan. Broken tabs, side is busted off, and it's perma-formed/bent where it was jimmied incorrectly.   The baffle? Unobtainum. Long since discontinued from GM, of course. Aftermarket/capa/chinese? Also unobtanium. In GM's infinite wisdom, it appears there are at least two different variations whether the Blazer is 2 or 4 door, and I can't yet tell if they shared the same part with the S-pickups. Plan B, if I can't find a viable used one, will be to create a bracket to re-assemble the critical joint I need to seal a gap with the shroud. But that will bug me, it won't be...perfect.   The water pump bolts appear to have been installed with...plumber's putty. I guess, sure, if it works...? I've found a few "backyard fixes" like that. Someone's been here before....   If I can't find someone to jam bamboo under my fingernails to fill my free time this week I think I'll install the driver's power window motor and replace the rear door speaker that's inop. I've got a genuine GM "9.5" ohm working replacement. Why GM used a non-standard resistance....nevermind. Of course they did, you can get more sound from a cheap factory amp that way.   And the saga goes on...
