Power steering flush?

Recommended Posts

I got an ad from my dealer for a "Power Steering System Flush". Never had one done on any of my prior vehicles. Is this something that should be done and if so, when or is it a scam for more of my money?

Thanks

Personaly  I think it is a scam. How many times in your life have you seen powersteering go out as long as you check it often.  I haven't seen one on any of mine.

I did a flush on my own only because I wanted to use synthetic fluid.  All I did was suck out as much of the power steering fluid as I could using a turkey baster and filled it back up with fresh synthetic. Then drove the car a few miles and made sure I made some turns. Then just did it all over again. I went through a little over a quart. The added benefit to synthetic if any is that it holds up under heat  better than regular PSF and in the summer time it can get very hot under that hood.

The dealers are trying to get what they can out of the public. As much as the fluid cost and how easy it is to do it I just did it myself, not to mention it was something I would do on my own anyway even if the dealer didn't suggest it.
