RyanbabZ71 Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Any Ethernet experts? Trying to hook up a camera to my PC It's setup but won't connect to the Internet Few photos Ryan
waumo1 Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 I just set one up, maybe the same camera. Are you hooking it to your PC or your router? If you are hooking to your router, it should get a DHCP address automatically.
waumo1 Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 OK. Did it come with a disk/app to let the PC find the camera? I hook them to my router, let them get a DHCP address, look at the router to see the address they have and proceed that way. You may be able to connect to your router, use the app they sent to locate the camera and proceed. If you are hooking the camera direct to the PC and the PC setup for DHCP the PC probably has no way to get an address and that can cause your no connectivity issue also. Hard to guess not knowing exactly the cam you have.
RyanbabZ71 Posted January 15, 2016 Author Posted January 15, 2016 Cam http://cache.insteon.com/documentation/75790-en.pdf No disk loaded software from internet
waumo1 Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Use the instructions under 1.4.2 - plug camera into router and have pc on the network and the app should locate the camera. I'm assuming ultimately you want to use the cam on your home network?
waumo1 Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Let me know if following their instructions works after connecting to your router. Once you can get the camera to manage it you can configure it for your wireless network if that is how you plan to use it.
RyanbabZ71 Posted January 15, 2016 Author Posted January 15, 2016 When going diretly into the router it doesnt pickup anything from the camera
waumo1 Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 If I was there I could probably figure it out but sounds like you may need to contact the manufacturer or if you have friend that knows networking maybe they can help. You might try the factory reset on the camera per 1.3.3 in case someone has configured the camera before you got it. With the camera plugged directly into the router and the PC on the network the app they provide should find the camera. A lot of things can screw that up though such as firewall software on the PC or some configuration of the home network. Really hard to say without being there to look at it. The manufacturer may have a manual procedure that can be used with the camera hooked directly to the PC but I don't see that in the manual. Sorry I was not able to be of more help.
RyanbabZ71 Posted January 15, 2016 Author Posted January 15, 2016 Thanks for the help, not sure what's up. I have my chamberlain garage door hooked up through my Ethernet with no issues. I have done the reset. Gonna keep plugging away Ryan
ember1205 Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Do the lights on the camera properly indicate that it is powered up and connected? One of the first troubleshooting steps listed in the docs is to ensure that the router you have it plugged into has DHCP enabled and there is no MAC filtering. Did you check that?
Terp84Alum Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 You need to plug the camera into your router on your network. Then use something ike Fing on your phone to see what IP addressedwas assigned to the camera. You could also go to www.foscam.us and download their their discovery tool. Once you connect to the camera viatge IP address, then you can set everything thng else up. I've probably set up nearly 100 ip cameras.

The camera needs to be plugged into the router, NOT the PC. This is required so that the camera can obtain an IP Address on the local LAN. Once that has been done, the software that gets loaded onto the WIndows machine does the discovery to "find" the camera. The Windows machine may need the firewall temporarily disabled for its discovery process to work.
