Just got done installing the K&N 63-3082 kit for my '14 Sierra 5.3l. With all that plastic gone the truck now has a sweet growl. Very happy,

That old plenum is just a sound deaden-er. I know it is there for max fuel economy and noise reduction, but damn I paid for a V8, I want to hear it!

Do they make one for the 2015's that has a carb sticker? Air raid and K&N both say "Not for sale in California "

If not, then just get the Airaid MIT.

Noticeable gain in engine sound and a pinch better throttle response.

Thanks, I see it's available for the '14 so maybe it's just waiting for CARB approval. I'll ask the Airaid guys when I see them at 4Wheel Parts truck fest in March.

Nope, the MIT isn't CARB compliant in CA either.

That's interesting. I would think that running the MIT with the factory air box would be fine in terms of passing a California smog test. If it were me, I would do the MIT and swap back for the factory air box when running the smog test.

Has to do with Airaid spending the $$ to get it certified. Banks does all of their stuff to comply since they have offices in CA.

That's what I plan to do but finding a company that will ship it here is not easy. I'll have to have it shipped to a friend out of state and have him ship it to me or buy a "50 state legal" system. I think the Banks and Cold Air Inductions cai's have a CARB # but both are $$$.

The factory duct has nothing to do with gas mileage, it is all for NVH compliance only. The helmholtz chambers are there to quiet down the intake growl so that intake noise is non-existent. My wifes Audi has not only the chamber but also in internal muffler as well to make sure you never heard the intake noise or the supercharger whine.

I just installed K and N in my Silverado, and I love it, although I do get a rattle from somewhere inside the cabin, I believe its from center overhead sunglass holder

Yeah the swap out only took me around 40 minutes or so, most likely take less to go back to stock. As for CARB, it is funny I live in the only New England state, New Hampshire, that doesn't require it on all new cars. As for any gains on the swap for the CAI, I just wanted more sound when I mash the gas.

I had a ariaid MIT on my 2012 1500 5.3 . now I'm getting one for 2015 1500 5.3 . I like the closed airbox over the open unit. . maybe old age
