Normal or not, thats the Million dollar question

I borrowed a trailer from a friend yesterday to pick up a garage door. This is a Cam Superline trailer that weights in between 3500 and 4000 lbs for hauling cars. While towing it.. every bump this trailer hit was felt HARD in the truck.. I've never towed anything that did that even trailers that weighted in about 7k with weight distribution. I'm assuming because of the tight suspension it has for heavy loads is why?? It towed great otherwise, but when you hit the concrete roadway, where it was rough, the truck was bounding pretty bad.

 

Could I have bad shocks or is this just the trait of this type of trailer unloaded?

Hm my car hauler has twin 5200 axles its pretty stiff unloaded and can be a bit loud when you hit bumps. The slide in metal ramps tend to bounce when you hit a bump might just be the tight suspension you felt.

Yea, an empty trailer will transmit a lot of rough road feel back into the truck. Think about it, its attached directly to the frame of the truck, so everything the trailer feels, the truck will feel.

The trailer wasn't loud, it made the truck bounce pretty bad.. This too is a dual axle trailer. The trailer itself was fairly quiet but my windows were up.. I'm sure the trucks fine but from time to time it was pretty bouncy. It shook my insides pretty hard.. haha. My friend who let me borrow the trailer from is driving it home today with his ford. I'll find out if his truck was bouncy with it too. I also talked to a few other people with similar trailers today and they said unloaded they pull pretty rough but loaded with a vehicle, they're pretty smooth so it must be the trailers stiff suspension.

Pretty normal. It's a stiff suspension without any shock control, so it's gonna hop around like crazy and shake the frame. I have a cushion ball that I use when I'm light or unloaded towing. Amazing how much it helps.

I towed an open and empty race car trailer that had solid mobile home style axles a few times. That thing would beat you to death, and pretty much make all of your passengers sick. Yes, this is fairly common.
