How many idle hours are on your truck?

I noticed my truck has a little under 8hrs of idle time and I suspect most of that is from before I owned it. It had 200 miles on it before I bought the truck. Any ideas how high or low that number is?

I have a 2016 1500 Denali. The information screen came set (default?) to only show 7 of the possible 12 different options. One of the 5 that wasn't showing until I turned it on was the engine hours.

The hour meter keeps track of total run time hours not just idle.

It says idle hours and it doesn't seem to go up much given how much I drive, but then again I haven't watch it very closely. If it is total run time that would make me feel better.

 

EDIT: I have ~1000 miles and ~8 hrs, so unless I am driving 125 miles per hour it has to be either idle hours or I have some how, unbeknownst to me, reset the counter.

Engine Hours

Shows the total number of hours the engine has run. This display also shows the engine idle hours.

That must be total hours, not idle hours. 3000/100 = 30 MPH which is a reasonable average speed.

 

My concern is that my truck was allowed to idle for several hours before being broken in, which isn't good in my opinion for the engine.

Oh I'm not sure. Does the display have the option to see see idle and drive hrs. I'll have to look and see. I do have some good idles hrs I'm assuming as in the northeast I remote start 10 minutes before I leave almost all the time. Truck feels very laggy when not warmed up

GM trucks have had this since 1999. Many people don't know how to turn on the screen from RTM failure. That said, they tend to reset often and are not very accurate. Would be a good PM feature if it worked better.

I guess I didn't notice, but it shows total and idle engine hours.

 

Just curious what others have for idle hours and if having this many hours is considered high? I would really like to know what the trucks that just come off the delivery truck have for idle hours. Maybe this is common as the trucks might idle a lot during transport?

Wouldn't worry about it the engine was ran and tested before going into the truck so how many unknown hours is that going to be little over cautious imo

Hmm I'm almost sure my 15 chevy does not have idle hours only engine hours. I'll look in the morning. That being said last I looked I had 94 hours and about 2400 miles.

Mine has engine only as well. 208 hours/6300 miles.

 

I turned on EVERY screen - they all show up. no limit on my Sierra. Like that I can check tranny temp while towing and the off road screen is kinda neat.

      I agree, simplicity and reliability matter more as vehicles get more complicated. A V8 work truck option with fewer electronic features and a stronger warranty would definitely appeal to a lot of buyers who use their trucks for real work. Customizing it with trusted outfitters is often the best way to get exactly what you need.webcrimsNY

      I’ve heard similar complaints from newer vehicles where the factory “premium” systems don’t always live up to expectations. A good installer should be able to improve the sound without turning it into a bass-heavy setup. I’d look into upgrading the front speakers, adding a quality DSP amplifier, and possibly improving sound deadening first—those changes usually make a much bigger difference than just adding a subwoofer. Hopefully someone local can recommend a reputable installer in the Las Vegas/St. George area.

      Do you remember that Harley Davidson was more successful (solvent) when it produced about 60% of the market demand (by design) and forced wait times of up to three years? Even when your turn came around it was, "Take what we are giving you or move to the back of the line and start over". HUGE markup's were 'normalized' and dealer killed. 40% markup and no floor plan? What's not to love? Greed will kill them yet. They have surplus production and customer base is tanking. And still they think nosebleed pricing will work.

      The engine was done as part of the 6.2 recall?   You'd have to see if your VIN also has the 6.2 engine special coverage on it.  Coverage number is N252494003.  If you have this, your engine is covered under this and NOT the GM replacement part engine warranty which is 3yr/100k from the date of install.  The 3yr/100k mi warranty is in effect for non warranty purchases.     This is not any different if it was replaced under warranty without a recall or special coverage.  So if you had a 5.3 and it popped at 3 years in at 50,000mi during the 5yr/60k powertrain, the replacement engine would not get the 3yr/100k, and instead gets the remainder of the 5yr/60k as coverage.     So N252494003 gives 10 years or 150,000mi of coverage, which ever comes first, starting at the vehicle in service date.  So if your in service date is 01/01/2022, N252494003 gives you special coverage of the engine until 01/01/2032 or 150,000mi, whichever comes first.  So if your start date was 01/01/2022, you'd have left 5 years and 4 months (lets round to august 1st), or 62,000mi left of coverage.   So you need to know your in service date to know how much coverage is left.

      Okiee dokie there bud, way to take things to the extreme.   I guess you missed the whole point and take things way to serious. I installed different EV6 style injectors that just so happen to be larger in my car running the same LQ4 engine and with a better spray pattern than the stock style injectors and I noticed no difference in the idle quality. Kinda was my round about way of saying that even if you put the same size but better style injectors in your truck, you will likely see the same thing.    I'm sure you're great to have conversations with in person if that's how you act through a keyboard. One little things sets you off and now I guess my dick is all up in your face.
