Im a first time diesel owner. 04 gmc sierra with 137K on a 6.6l duramax. A few of my buddies run rotella. Coming from a gas engine ive ran Castrol my entire life...with zero issues with any engine ive ever owned, all being gm engines. I noticed Castrol makes a gtx diesel engine oil. I see few to no reviews on the oil. Most people seem to stick to rotella or mobil 1. anybody here had any experience with Castrol diesel engine oil

As long as it meets or exceeds whatever the standards were at the time the truck was built, you should be fine. So, a 15w40 API CJ-4 of your personal choice shall be fine. I can tell you that factory fill is Mobil Delvac 1300 to this day. Lots of folks run that, Shell Rotella, Chevron Delo.

15HDriver covered it well. 15w-40 CJ-4 oil on the market will work well. You can go synthetic but if you don't run extended drain intervals there is no need too.
