Cab/roof top lights after purchase

I just installed a set on my 04 2500 in January, simply because I like the look. The kits do not come with a template or anything so I measured about 50 times, chickened out, measured a few more times, took a deep breath and started drilling. So far no leaks. Prepped the holes with a corrosion stopping paint and silicone the crap out of the holes

Yes black silicone the shit out of it, that's what I did and never had a leak for the year I had owned the truck until I sold it

Potential for future leaks... :dunno:

That is another possibility. I don't think I'd chance adding them to a brand new truck. With something like mine that has over 200k on it, and needs body work along with a paint job, well sure I'll do it. If they leak I'll just pull them out, and weld the holes shut. In reality though they're probably no worse than having a sun roof.

I installed 5 of the middle '90's style on my '02 HD. Definitely a challenge, but glad I did.

Bought a brand new '94 1500 Z71 back in the day. It had OEM clearance lights.

Not going to put 'em on my '14 1500 though. I don't think it was an option ?

New ones can be installed fairly easy if you buy the harness from what I have found. The kicker is that they are square holes, so you have to drill a small pilot hole and square it out with a file or something. Then if you use the correct harness they just come on with the foglight button. They have a foam gasket on the bottom of the housings and are not meant to use silicon, but I definitely would.

This is some info someone else sent me on the 2500 forum when I asked.

Hopefully this is ok to post here and uncertain how much difference there is in the wiring inside the cab between a 1500 and a 2500/3500 trucks -

The 2015 cab lights on the HD trucks now require a square hole.

I definitely think they look cool and if I ever trade my 1500 for a 2500 the roof lights are going on the options sheet.

I'd be too paranoid about adding them after the fact. The thought of drilling into the sheetmetal scares me too much.

I like the way they look with the tow mirrors. They tie in nicely with the parking lights. I dont see the big deal having them on a 1500 vs a 2500. I would put them on if I could get over cutting holes into a 50k truck...lol

I'll get them on mine once I level and get a more aggressive tire. I did them on ny Avalanche, looked great. I had the black tinted pacer performance ones.

I dont think they look so good on stock 1500s nose diving along with poochy street tires.

I did this with my Sierra. It's a 2015 1500 with Max Trailering (cab clearance lights do not come with the max tow package on the 1500's). I got the lights from Pacer Performance. They have OEM replicas so they look exactly like the ones that come on the 2500's. I got them solely for the looks because I like them. I already had the tow mirrors and lift, so the lights just added to the whole look.
