Custom tunes

OK, so have we determined 100% yet whether tunes can be seen, I guess this more entails to diablo/diablew tunes. Since they are the ones that claim they are undetectable.

I guess my surefire way for not killing my extended 84 month powertrain would be to get a second ecu? Haven't looked into the price of that yet

Edit:

OK my question is, has anyone had something in the engine/Trans let go whether it was tune related or not, and attempted warranty work.

This is the only 100% way this back and forth is going to end. And reading countless posts I'm. Sure would answer everyone's questions.

I'm fully aware of risk/reward and any other point ppl are making.

That is Not my question

I know it's been beat over the head, but every single post on thid is a back and forth of yes and no. I've seen posts of guys claiming they've taken it to their gm guy and they've run the test right there and good to go.

Then other posts ppl saying that's bullshit.

I mean has anyone tuned, flashed back to stock and gone in for warranty work on the engine yet and can actually confirm if it's see able or not?

Or are we still at a yes they can , no they can't?

If GM wants to dig they can see the tunes, there is a CVN counter in the ECM that records how many flashes the ECM has went thru. If that info doesn't match what GM has on file for the ECM then GM can pull a detailed calibration report. So while you can tune back to stock and they wont see any changes, they will be able to tell the ECM has been flashed.

You wont be able to use a separate ECM either, the dealer would have to program the ECM every time you wanted to swap over, plus the TCM for the transmission is located inside of the transmission pan so it is not readily accessible.

So basically you have to pay to play guys, don't want to take a chance on your powertrain warranty then don't tune the truck.

Yes, but I've heard this, and then heard of people going through the whole thing that they do to check and coming up with nothing.

Hearing that's bullshit

Then hearing the flash is bullshit

I'm wanting to know if anyone has officially tried to go in for warranty work yet while being flashed and it being found?

Not what a gm tech says, not hear say, not this that and the other because the multiple contridicting stories everywhere is just frustrating for everyone.

I just want to know if anyone knows of anyone going in for a engine or Trans problem that was tuned and if it was actually found. Real world. That's it

Good to know about the ecm and tcm tho, that's a fail. Tbh when I say "**** it" with my warranty is when the truck gets supercharged. At this point I just hate reading the threads and googling like mad and haven't once seen a confirmation in this form yet which is really going to be the only way to end the constant "yes no"

I tuned mine, took it in for multiple warranty jobs, water pump for the engine being one and they never asked or cared. Now if I blew up my engine and threw a rod out of the side of it, blew up my trans, rear end or broke my transfer case in half (yes I seen it done in our shop) I would bet GM would pull the tune and check, anything else you shouldn't have a problem.

So as long as you don't break the motor, trans, rear end, or transfer case your good. If you do and they see the parameters were beyond what is allowed when it happened you pay. The warranty is for the truck as the dealer builds it. If you want to mess with crap just expect to pay if you break it. It's only fair. So tune away.

I know all of these points, it's not what I'm Asking. This is the same thing on every other post.

Just simply if anyone's has like stated above, thrown a rod, or something calfed with the engine/Trans ect, that would warrant them pulling the ecu info. And whether or not warranty was voided.

This is for a 100% confirmation of what so far to this point is back and forth and hearsay.

I'm really not trying to be a dick or nething, I'm sorry if it sounds that way. Just all of these answers are the same answers on every post, I've searched plenty. What I haven't found yet is if anyone has ACTUALLY blown something up, whether fault of the tune or not, and attempted to have it warrantied

It's just how much risk can you handle and afford.

I think the risk of a hard part breakage for myself is pretty low since I don't race or abuse my truck.

This has been going on for years I have yet to read about a case that was denied. Turbo Diesels different story.

honestly I haven't found it yet either...but with the new so called "flash counter' in the new series truvks..bit different curiosity.i unno maybe its just too early and these are good engines and nothings failed yet to put this flash counter claim ND tuners claiming they cant be seen to the test(honestly y I cant seeing nothing failing in the last 2 years being the case) theres never a perfect margin in that length of time, expecially considering the afm and the lifter buildup due to the DI engine.... or maybe no ones been denied at all so far... I just figure thered be some sort of case to give a true answer to everyones question

There was an owner on here last year that lost an engine, truck was stock and GM tried to deny the warranty claim. They pulled the report from the ECM and the calibration details didn't match what GM had on file, owner was adamant truck was stock. Took a bit and GM figured out that an update was applied that they didn't have record of in their system.

So GM can and will check under a claim for engine or transmission claim.

I recently purchased a tuner for my own truck that is under warranty, so I've done LOTS of reading on this in many TSB's that aren't published publicly and talked to technicians that work with this stuff.

Long story short, there ARE ways that a dealer can make sure GM never knows, but no way that an individual can make sure that the dealer never knows. So, it will all boil down to your relationship with your dealership, a dealership will not be willing to put themselves at risk to save you a few bucks.

You better support your dealership well and you better hope if it ever happens, that it's not away from your dealership

There we go, that's more what I was looking for.

So then yes it's pretty well 100% confirmed, they can and will find it in the event of a hard part failure.

Thank you.

Doing a lot of googling I'm actually a little dissapointed in chev. How "undertuned" these trucks are, the fact they are better ran at 89 octane + since 87 seems to pull significant knock, and each degree of knock tends to rop quite a lot of power in any engine. And the factory or dealer doesn't rate them to run the higher octane.

The crap choice of lower gearing available (3.73 is easily optioned in ford, the dodges are stock 4.10.

Thier fail afm system used in these.

The fact they don't install catch can systems when using a direct injection engine ( the pcv oil build up has been a problem for years in DI engines).

There is a lot I like about chev, but the fact they are retarded, or just plain ignorant in terms of tuning, expecially when they have a high compression engine running low octane and pulling serious knock, and proven as such countless times it seems, and then get pissy when guys retune to make the truck run like it should.

It just rather bugs me that I have to drop a bunch of money into such an expensive truck to ACTUALLY enjoy it. And it seems I'm not the only one

Hey maybe if I go up to 91 octane it'll wake it up quite a bit ( well it should given the knock values I've been seeing when reading)

Using 89, 91 will not do bit of good. I've used it and saw no diff. The ECM will recognize the fuel and pretty much tune down. F%#*!!! When I first got my 2015 5.3, coming from an 05 4Runner I was like Damn! Then I added Magnaflow and a kn drop in, bad ass right. But now I'm starting to notice the throttle lag and the tranny shifting to a higher gear right as I step on it to pass or get out on he highway just to Bogg down (annoying). I've read forums, reviews about tunes and they are all good or they all suck, custom tune are the best, canned are great, Bla Bla Bla, it seems like there is no good way to go. I don't need a rocket, just want the tranny to not be all over the place. So yeah, it does suck that we spend all this money on our trucks to turn around and chance Voiding the Warrenty with a tune and other performance parts that the damn truck should come with or at least have an option. still love Chevy, but cmon it's time to stop being so damn environmentally friendly.
