which diff to choose

Detroit lockers drive just fine in a street truck.... I dailied one for years in ice and snow terrible winters in northern Alberta... probably the best mod I did for that truck.. The truck? A 245/75/16 tire equipped stock everything 2005 GMC 1500HD. Trutracs are not a carrier I want in the back. ... works okay in the front of my 86 Blazer as it allows me turn like an open diff....

That said for actual drop in carriers for the current 9.5" in these new trucks Detroit doesn't make a locker for them anyway. With the right parts you might be able to make the old 9.5" 14 bolts locker work... don't read a lot about that though.

If they ever made a 9.76" locker my 2015 would get one..... but they won't in my lifetime so I need not worry about it lol.

Your truck being a V6 just has the same 8.6" 10 bolt the 2013 and older trucks had. You have a myriad of parts for carriers and gears to choose from. The only standalone carrier on the 10 bolts was for 2.56... your existing carrier will habdle 4.10 fine.

So i got a price finally

4k CDN to go to 4.56 as will need the new carriers, most of that is labor.

2600 to go to 4.10

No new carrier needed would bring me back to stock 3.42 gearing with my lift and tires.

Jesus **** lol

Sounds about right.... and honestly isn't that bad of a price for both diffs to be done either.... what do you expect it for free lol. The prices guys pay in the USA can just be ignored lol.

No i didnt expect it to be free, i DIDNT expect the labor to be 2 grand, but thats price to pay to have it covered with a power train warranty.

Id do it myself, but the front diff is a real **** from what i understand

Going to 4.10 from 3.08 next week. Front diff is good to go. Rear needs new carrier. Parts n labor is $1600. Gotta say...

Pretty happy with the price.

Most of the labor is apparantly the front. I may look into what itll take to do it myself. I would RATHER do it myself regardless, just not sure how involved it is with the front

front not that hard exspecially since it splits in half. put all new bearings in my buddys truck, was 4 and half hours.

Hmm, if thats the case then maybe ill find a write up and price out just the parts and do it myself.

Thanks for everyone who helped me get the correct parts. They came in this week and I have assemble the new gears to the truetrac. Sadly I don't have time to install any of it on the truck for a couple of more weeks.

Honestly, why bother regearing? In a few years you will get rid of the truck because the next generation will come out and you will want one of those. Get lighter tires or just live with it.

This is why I searched out a truck with factory 3:73's, get the best possible gearing you can get from the factory to coincide with what you want to do with the truck.

That's your opinion. I buy what I can afford, this was my best choice. Definitely not the trading in type, I have an 03 Silverado with 320k miles so you can see I use them, trading in is a waste of money, might as well rent a truck since you will never own it.

Don't take offense, but when a person buys a base model truck such as what you purchased, they spend the next however many years of ownership trying to upgrade all the features to make it an LT or LTZ. In the end it costs just as much if not more than just buying the right truck in the first place. I have done it before and I will never do it again. Specs are everything, if you can't find what you are looking for, order it.

I get what your saying about trading in all the time being a waste of money, which is true. However, will it matter when I am dead? I don't care all that much about money whether I have or not, because I can't take it with me. Any decisions, good or bad, can only haunt you while your alive, which is actually a very short time. Sure, there are people out there who "did it right", invested their money and made all the smart decisions, but when they kick the bucket, none of that will matter, and I bet they went out with regrets.

Some people, I'm not one of them. The simpler the easier it is to fix. My only real upgrades are tires and exhaust. Which doesn't matter what trim you have, most will upgrade this.
