For your use, the Truetrac is the better choice. The Detroit-type locker is really for people who are more hard-core offroad types. The Truetrac would be great up front as well (operates in a very similar manor to the Torsen in the front of the Raptors) unfortunately they don't make it for our fronts (nor does anybody else make a better diff for our fronts that I'm aware of).

thank for the input..so correct me if im wrong...the z71 g80 locker iS a lsd right?

To boil it down, a locker, whether auto, manual/electronic or a spool, is best used in a straight line when locked, and works well for low speed, limited traction applications like mud. An LSD, whether Truetrac or Torsen or clutches, is useful when you want to apply power while turning because it allows some speed differential between the wheels. An LSD is usually the best option for a street car, but a locker may be the better choice for a truck. Full lockers are used for some race cars, especially drag cars, but they have drawbacks for any car that needs to turn.

Hmm that clears it up better, and has been what I've been reading. And here I thought my truck cornered VERY well with the g80 locker ( I was actually shocked, pavement or even higher speed 4x4 on hardpack snow) me and my buddy had back road played a few times, and me following, countless times I could've taken him on the inside corner if the road was wide enough. Found I just had insane cornering for such a big truck.

Be interesting to perh experience the difference of an lsd in both situations.

You are aware that none of these parts will fit your rear axle. 6 cyl trucks have the 8.6 rear axle V8 trucks have the 9.5 and 9.76 ring gear axles. FYI

Not sure if your's is the same, but I know my 9.5" is 33 spline, not sure if your smaller ring gear is also 33 spline or if they kept the smaller one 30 spline. You need to find out if it's 30 or 33 spline before you buy anything.

I myself want to regear since I have the 3.08s. I want 3.73 but I haven't found any for the 9.5", just for the 9.76" that the 6.2s have. I know I can go to 4.10s that I've seen but don't really want to go that low since I don't plan on lifting it or anything. Not trying to hijack the thread lol.

Alright, I'll try to find out what mine is. Thanks.

Edit. So I found out mine is a 30 spline but I think my carrier can't handle the 4.10 so I would need to change it. So Ill just keep looking lol.

Detroit lockers drive just fine in a street truck.... I dailied one for years in ice and snow terrible winters in northern Alberta... probably the best mod I did for that truck.. The truck? A 245/75/16 tire equipped stock everything 2005 GMC 1500HD. Trutracs are not a carrier I want in the back. ... works okay in the front of my 86 Blazer as it allows me turn like an open diff....

That said for actual drop in carriers for the current 9.5" in these new trucks Detroit doesn't make a locker for them anyway. With the right parts you might be able to make the old 9.5" 14 bolts locker work... don't read a lot about that though.

If they ever made a 9.76" locker my 2015 would get one..... but they won't in my lifetime so I need not worry about it lol.

Your truck being a V6 just has the same 8.6" 10 bolt the 2013 and older trucks had. You have a myriad of parts for carriers and gears to choose from. The only standalone carrier on the 10 bolts was for 2.56... your existing carrier will habdle 4.10 fine.
