ragin_cajuns Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 I brought my new 16 SIerra into the dealer yesterday to take care of a few rattles. One in the upper dash around the windshield and another that seemed to be under or behind the steering column or gauges. They called me a few hours later and said both were fixed under an existing bulletin. They added insulation to under the trim piece along the dash where it meets the windshield and the same bulletin called for insulation against an inverter under the steering column area. I don't have the bulletin number with me right now. I haven't heard the rattle under the steering column again yet but the dash one is still there - sounds different now but still there so I plan to take it back next week. Anyone else have experience with these rattles?
15 Z71 Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 I have a 15 Sierra sle, and it started making a rattling noise up by the left dash speaker. I have not taken it in yet as I'm afraid they will mess with it and make it worse. Prob have them look at it next oil change.

I'll try to find the pics on my phone.
15 Z71 Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Thanks. I hope that's where its at. At least that where it sounds like.
ANazir Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 I have this sound that sounds like a small rock chip hitting my windshield up where the dash and windshield meet occassionally. Like a lil cracking sound. I check my windshield every time and theres no actual crack. (no its not actual rock chips hitting the windshield)

Used tape like this? http://www.amazon.com/Yosoo-Universal-Flannel-Squeak-Adhesive/dp/B0169U1X7I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1458302933&sr=8-1&keywords=automotive+felt+tape
Half_ton Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 The small thin black is from the factory felt, the wider loooong strips are mine Sorry it too so long, I had to search Facebook for them as I deleted them from my phone. I'm doing this from a work computer which is a no no, so I'll post link of tape later. Hope this helps
ragin_cajuns Posted March 18, 2016 Author Posted March 18, 2016 Thanks. is that tape in the circled area too? are those tabs that insert into something? i haven't taken that piece off to investigate yet. what about those metal clips i pointed to? those are the source of squeaking?

I was trying to determine if these pictures might apply to my situation. I've had the rattle since day one of ownership and just can't deal with it anymore.

I've had the rattle since day one of ownership and just can't deal with it anymore. That sounds more like a bad or loose speaker. I would take it in. The dash speakers are supposed to be high passed so could it be coming from the door? Edited March 18, 2016 by crewl1

I think mine is the plastic piece up by windshield. If I hold it it stops.

To the guy asking about radios- it rattled regardless of radio operation.

Mine does the same thing, it drives me and my wife crazy. i cant seem to find the source, but it rattles when music is playing.
morrislee Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 Another culprit is the daylight sensor (little half circle shaped that hooks up to the same piece) Add some padding between that and the socket it goes in, good luck!
