2016 ignition switch

In all my other GM's you had to hold the key until engine started. In this new one, you just turn it to start and leave it. So going back to the original post, Is this the new normal?

My sons truck 2017 gmc starter engaged while going down road, and in no time it was smoking nad enough that by the time he got pulled over and stopped looked like truck was on fire. This happend when he was driving down hwy. We are trying to contact gm but no luck with this yet on them returning call. As this malfunction basicly cost him his motor in his truck. He has the ls gen 3 motor which i don't understand why they would put that motor in a 4x4 truck but besides that in bent lifter bolt knocked a bunch of lifters loose and basicly ruined the motor. Waiting to see if gmc is going to stand up and replace his motor or what they going to do..
