importing from canada to us

$38,000 Canadian against a cash price. Can a dealer show you more if they don't discount the new truck sure... but that's what it's wholesale value should be as long as it's not weird or has a bad history. If you're worried about how much your trade in allowance is, then do it against retail and it'll be a good $10K higher on a no finance deal.

Thanks

Sell it yourself in your nearest US craigslist market. It should bring that in US dollars for the end user buyer in the US... check it on comparable listings to wherever is nearest to you in the US or check a KBB value near you in the US. I'm sure the US users here will give you some input also... but we're kinda hi-jacking the original topic here.

Wow, I thought my dealer was trying to snow me just to get me in a 2016. Hmmm I might just check in with him again I think the Loonie dropped a point or two today.

Kijiji is so much easier and friendlier to search specifics than craigslist... I don't know why the Americans wouldn't use it... it's a shame. I think kijiji pulled out in the US now.

GM does not void any cross border warranty, warranty will be valid regardless of where it originated from.

However, it is required to be at least 6 months from in service date AND have 12,000 kilometers/7,500 miles on it or GM will under no circumstances issue the letter of safety and emissions compliance. And, any dealer that received incentives will be charged back those incentives along with having their allocations curtailed. In other words, if I as a Canadian dealer, sell you as an American buyer a new truck... I get any rebates charged back to me, and they make it difficult for me to get more new trucks for inventory.

So, no dealer in their right mind wants to sell a new vehicle across a border... it's just too costly.

My own personal trucks go south at the exact point of 6 months or 12,000kms quite consistently when the exchange rate is favorable. Last one had an American buyer speak for it even before it was ready, the day it was ready... it was gone!

The labeling compliance mentioned earlier isn't a big problem, my shop just installs the US version of the airbag indicator light and provides a work order to show that it was changed to meet US standards and that's all that's been required. Keep in mind that Canadians don't have a "title" like you American folks do... so you have a bit of song and dance to do at your own title office with an original registration from Canada before you can title your truck.

I have dealt with the import/export of a couple hundred trucks through my dealership between when the exchange rate was high vs when it was low.

You need the one that says airbag on/airbag off... not the one with pictures. Let a dealership choose it, it really doesn't matter... what does matter is having a dealership work order that states "update airbag indicator to meet US standards" even if they choose the wrong one, it really doesn't matter... what matters is having a dealership work order to show US customs that the work was properly done. Don't do it yourself, get a dealership to do it. If you cheap out and buy it yourself and install it yourself, you have no proof for US customs that it's done, just your word... and that can bite you in the ass. The customs and immigration people don't know by going out to look at it, and they don't care to make anyone's life easier... they want their life easier.

Look in Alberta. Should be lots of used trucks there with the layoffs from the drop in oil prices. Quick look at Calgary Craigslist shows 15 GMC trucks between 2014 and 2016.

    • Thanks, so being a different beast altogether, anyone know what the "optimal" temp is for the 10L80/90 for proper shifting?
    • How many years have I pointed out every point in that link to the folks here and been avalanched with criticisms and outright hostilities at times? I ran counter to even the great CUSTOMBOSS and Lake Speed Jr and the half dozen experts on YouTube and in the final.....GM, Physics (Stribeck) backs that Grumpy old Bear.    Honestly, I never said a thing engineering hadn't studied silly and laid in concrete during WWII. But I'm old, the information is old and yet, the Laws of Physics are eternal.    Okay there is one exception. I vehemently disagree with their use of the word 'tolerances' when what it meant is "clearance".   The clearance is the distance between two objects. The tolerance is the degree of acceptable variation permitted in that clearance. I.E., piston to bore clearance is 0.004" with a tolerance of +/- .0002" so the clearance is in specification if it lies between 0.0038" and 0.0042". Cutting that 'tolerance in half has ZERO impact on lubrication requirements. Makes for more difficulty in manufacturing.  But a tighter clearance 'MAY'. Depends on finish. Anyway....   It's one of those statements made by people to make themselves look smarter than they are to convince people who are as un-enlighten as they seem to manipulate their behaviors. But hey, the blind leading the blind puts them both in the pit.
    • Out and about yesterday on a long Saturday drive I passed a lot of Shell stations. My preferred, so I pay attention. Lot's of small town Illinois so not six stations in three blocks like the city.    Everyone of them over a radius of say 100 miles had regular at $4.19 but one which was the one closest to home at $4.15. However Premium pricing varied greatly between 85 cents over regular to $1.50 over. I'm not counting the price of the station with the lowest regular so the reference is the same for the remainder and all within the same brand. However the spread discrepancy holds across all brands.     @txab, any thoughts on that?
    • What are your thoughts? The Chevy Blazer relaunch was an epic case of 'lunchbag letdown'. Jeep Wranglers and Ford Broncos stick out like a sore thumb.    The AI photos do not look like a 'retro version', but shrunken Tahoes. Get away from the 'futuristic look'. I've seen two concepts. One had rectangular headlight like a Rivian and the other way too big headlights (similar to a previous non-Wrangler SUV) should include dual round headlights like the early version.   If not this would look OK   At least it has GM styling (albeit the K2XX) A lot of the images floating around look like Bronco IIs or the current Bronco. Looking at the Broncos in my area (central Ontario, it seems to be a mix of 2 doors and 4 doors, 'mall rated' to ones that could go offroad.    I'm sure a AT4 and AT4X RPOs could be outfitted similar to a Rubicon if the braintrust understood the whole offroad scene. Crossing my fingers that if it does see the light that the front air dam/bumper doesn't extend below the center line of the tire...
