RPM fluctuation at cold

I went over it with the service manager, we spoke with the tech and they are going to go that route next.

23,000 miles: I also got a P050D today for the first time. Getting into my truck this morning to leave after using remote start, I noticed it was not running. I started it and noticed a rough idle and an illuminated check engine light.

Had a friend follow me over to the local Chevy dealer to drop it in the night drop and will wait to see what they say. It ran perfect as always once it was warmed up and I was on my way to the dealership.

 

I've heard of these trucks having some hit and miss injector issues before. I just hope this isn't going to become a common occurrence.

#1 #6 injectors replaced, one was on the far low end and the other was on the far high end of spec so they say. I'll be picking it up today.

Good to hear, my truck is still sitting at the dealer, according to them waiting on TAC to tell them how to proceed. Going on two weeks. Dropped it off last Monday, picked up Wed. Dropped back off on Thurs day and been there since? Guess I'll find out tomorrow.

Is there a tsb for replacing the injectors or some type of documentation from GM for troubleshooting this issue.

None was listed on my paper work, maybe none exists but a standard procedure is in place for P050D

The Service Manager did mention this was not a common occurrence. He did say he authorized his guy to replace both injectors even though GM wanted to draw it out with a longer process. I would like to know the reasoning behind it but he made it sound like they weren't sure it would fix it. Well...It did.

Sounds to me like they are just making up some BS to justify the delay. Clear as day that this same code has been fixed by the very same procedure multiple times. I am sure there is a collection of this code repair results at their database.

Just to update, they never did replace the injectors. They did a global recalibration on the ecu and did valve/injector and intake cleaning. It's been three weeks and truck seams to be running great again.

Got any PIT or service bulletin referring to this?? Work order info? Must be nice to get the vales cleaned for free

Service manager told me they could not replace the injectors without GM approval. This is the route they were told to go I guess. Either way it seams to have worked.

doesn't look like they did much other than resetting the computer. If they end up touching the injectors at all, they would have to replace the gaskets, and that may have fixed it. Not the ecu reset.

 

But you got the valves cleaned is nice, you should get a catch can installed but keep factory parts just in case.

 

I waltz in with my catch can, intake, dual exhaust and AMP plug and play in the OBD connector, they only gave me shit for the plug and play connector as they did not know what it is. You should get a different dealer that understand what these standard mods are.

 

That dealer even reconnected my catch can and K&N CAI back correctly when they reinstalled my intake manifold.

Wonder if they detuned the engine to run smooth - I've heard this is common practice in diesels. When they can't get one injector to match the other 7, they dial back the duty cycle on the 7 injectors to match the worst of them. Smooths everything out, of course, but now you've lost quite a bit of power.

 

That should be an illegal practice. Talk about a ripoff. Don't know if that's what they did here or not - just throwing it out there. Never know. I'd certainly want to know if I lost 50 HP due to a half-assed bandaid ...

Def does not feel like I lost any power, it actually seems run and shift much better than it did before. I really hope it was just a dirty injector.
